Track Creation Oddity

PostTue Dec 15, 2020 5:31 pm

This may be a bug or by design, I don't know which.

I have V1 and A1 with clips.

I have an empty V2, but no corresponding A2.

I drag a clip from a bin. Trying to drop on V2 will overwrite A1 audio. To properly place the audio on A2, I have to place the video on a newly created V3.

What should happen is that Resolve creates A2 to go along with the already existing V2 and the clip drops as expected.

In other words, Resolve should be able to finish off track pairs, rather than insisting on creating only new pairs.

Real world usage.

Clips on V1/A1, title on V2 earlier. At current working position, I have an occupied V1/A1 and an empty V2. I should be able to drag a new clip from a bin to V2/A2. Right now, we can't do that.

This one is funny :D
If you have a project with V1+A1 and A2 and try to drag a clip with audio into V2 (that's supposed to be created on the fly) before you release the mouse button you will see that it will create the V2 AND an empty A3, but will still put the audio from the new clip into A2. Once you release the mouse button the empty A3 will disappear.
At least on 17.1b5 on Apple M1

Just want to say this function still behaves incorrectly in 17.1.1.

Just want to confirm that 17.3 still behaves incorrectly.

Dropping clips should always match track numbers. If you Drop on V2, but there is no A2, Resolve needs to create A2 to match. Dropping on A1 is a BIG problem.

Drag your new clip to the AUDIO area in the timeline and a new audio track will be created and the vision will go to V2. It works this way so you can still drag & drop using the track destination controls without new tracks being created. I use it this way all the time and it's a great time saver!
