Davinci Keeps Crashing?

PostMon Jan 18, 2021 8:04 pm

Every time I try to make a simple Fusion Composition on Davinci, it crashes. I am using the free version, and I am just wondering if this is why? Or what other reason could it be?

I don't think it's my computer, as I am running Davinci 17 (Beta) on Ryzen 7 3800x, 500gb M.2 as boot SSD, 1tb M.2 for cache/render, 32GB (2x16) RAM (3600mhz CL 16), x570 Tomahawk, and RTX 3070. My computer does not lag when Davinci crashes, and it continues operating perfectly fine.

Is there anything I can do to stop this? It's really frustrating to have Fusion crash literally EVERY SINGLE time.

My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Thank you for the reply Jim. I am going to look into this and will report if it works or not.

Back with an update.

I was on a different driver (457.xx, can't remember) and I updated to the driver that people were having success with in that thread (460.89). It still continuously crashes. It is so bad that my software has crashed 7 consecutive times within less than 1 minute of usage. It cannot do a simple fusion composition, but everything else seems to work flawlessly.

I can't complain much since this is a free software... so I will ask the million dollar question. Do these type of nuances also occur with the paid version?

We'd need to see the logs to have any clue what's going on. There's a stickied FAQ thread in the main Resolve forum with information on how to provide logs that can be used for diagnosis of crashes.

As for if Resolve Studio is more stable, probably not - they're mostly identical. Remember that Resolve 17 is in beta...
HW: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X, 64GB DDR4 3600 CL16 RAM, 3x2TB NVMe SSDs (1xGen4, 2xGen3), 8GB Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super, dual monitor (4k, 1080P)
SW: DaVinci Resolve Studio 17b7, Win10 Pro 20H2, Nvidia Studio Driver 460.89, latest BIOS/chipset/drivers/etc.

If the free version is crashing, then on the same system the studio version will also almost certainly crash in a similar way. Blackmagic don't deliberately make to free version more unstable.

I've found the fusion tab in Resolve unstable enough ever since it was introduced that I avoid it generally, apart from an occasional play to see if things have improved every few releases. I use standalone Fusion.

Outside of using that bad driver, that's not normal. Even for the betas.

This is a dedicated editing system? No games, office, email, development, security, etc. installed?

Try, a full install with 460.89, again. Inc power cycle reboot before and after.
If that doesn’t work see FAQs for how to generate Resolve logs and NFO.

Thank you, and everyone that took their time to provide help on this post. I need to update my notification settings, had no idea you guys replied... I've been so busy.

Anyways, I will provide the logs this coming week. I just want to clarify I understand; when you say full install with 460.89, you're talking about DaVinci (on that driver), right?

I do use this computer for emails, some Excel spreadsheets and such... but no games at all, and few software. It's definitely not due to a lack of hardware capabilities, but definitely software/driver or something like that.
