R17 Beta 7 Crashes on Startup

PostThu Jan 21, 2021 7:21 am

Hello,

I recently downloaded Resolve as I was interested in a video editor but I'm unable to get it to work at all. I'm able to get it installed but trying to launch it after install shows the splash screen which then gets hung up and crashes at the "loading cut page" phase of it. I've tried several re-installs and updating my drivers to no avail. Hopefully someone can help me out?

Thanks in advance!

(Also I apologise is this isn't formatted right)

System specs:
Intel i7-8700
GTX 1080
16GB RAM
Windows 10 Build 19042.746
Davinci Resolve Version 17.0.0.23

The crash logs are attached, and the link to NFO file and DxDiag is below

I'm in the same boat. I don't think anyone has an answer to the issue, there are posts going back months and no solution has been offered. :(

Hi all,

Yeah, I have this issue also. I uninstalled Resolve 16.2.7 today when my new Resolve Studio 17 dongle and Speed Editor keyboard arrived. Resolve 17.0b7 won't take me past "loading cut page" on the splash screen.

Uninstalled Resolve Studio 17.0b7 and installed Resolve Studio 16.2.8. This works just fine. This is the first time I've ever run the paid version of Resolve, so I thought it might be something to do with the dongle, but clearly it isn't.

I haven't even tried to test the keyboard. I just plugged it in a USB Type A port with USB-C to USB-A connectors on it. Windows recognised it and installed it. It appears in my devices, so I'm assuming it's all good. But I think it's made for Resolve 17, not 16 right? So I cannot test on 16.

I don't really know what to do with the whole thing now. It's not really that great is it? I know it's a beta, but buying a load of kit for hundreds of pounds, you would have thought the beta related issues I'd run into would be when I did something more complicated than try to start the software eh?
Kind regards, Andrew

Hi all,

I've done some more work on this, trying to get Resolve Studio beta 7 up and running. Seems the log shows a problem related to OFX and Red Giant Universe plugins. This is AFTER I uninstalled everything related to Red Giant.

couldn't open library C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX\Plugins\Red Giant Universe\Universe_Transitions_Triangle_Wave_OFX.ofx.bundle\Contents\win64\Universe_Transitions_Triangle_Wave_OFX.ofx because A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed.

was returned

I installed R17b7 on a clean install of Windows and it worked just fine, as did the Speed Editor keyboard. So the problem is definitely my current Windows install. I've no idea how to uninstall the problem Red Giant software that is already uninstalled though. I really don't want to have to completely reinstall Windows and all my software just to get R17b7 running. I mean, it's a beta. It's not like I'm going to use it for live projects.

Quick workaround:

Download and install current Red Giant Universe. Don't even need to license it. R17b7 now seems to load just fine.

When I have more time, I'm going to rename out the RG Universe plugins folder and see whether it still works. Then if it does, I'm going to uninstall the new install of RG Universe and hope that takes away the dodgy bits that were left over the first time.

Will report back. :-)

This is the folder: C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX\Plugins\Red Giant Universe

Hi all,

Just reporting back, I uninstalled the newly installed Red Giant Universe and then checked this folder:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX\Plugins\Red Giant Universe

The folder still had a load of plugins inside it. So I removed the folder completely. R17.0b7 still loads perfectly, with no hangs or errors.

Hope you all found this thread useful. :-)
