Faces Detection - Metadata "People"

PostSat Jan 23, 2021 1:46 am

I just finished to go through 200 videos files, tagging people (see my other post about it, it is painful with how it's presented, and the few options we have).

Anyway, I have many clips where Resolve didn't find a clearly visible face, so I tried to add in "manually" in the metadata window. But the field can't be edited (I can understand why, but it's problematic in many situations like this one). I made another "analyze clip for people"... no luck.

My goal was to reduce my time by not having to check manually all the clips... but I guess I'll have to check everything again anyway. This tool is unreliable imo :(

We should be able to put manually the name of people in this field.

I put it in the "Keywords" field for now, but the organization is already falling apart by doing so.

Unlocking "People" in the metadata window would be nice. OR to be able to "force" a face detection on a particular frame so we can tag the clip properly. I don't know what would be the best option.

We are now using version 18.1, a year and a half after the original post was submitted.
Any news regarding this issue?

The People metadata field is still not functioning in 18.1.1 on Windows.

I don't know, I stopped using this tool not long after posting about it.

And I didn't see anything about in the release logs.

This tool was a good idea, but it's not really useful in the "real world".
If you deviate a little bit from the perfect situations, it takes more time trying to make it work, than just scrub clips back and forth.

The "in between" results are not good enough for me. And it's pretty clunky too.
Maybe with the AI push they will work on it.

It is working (you must analyze the clips for people as the first step. there are many online tutorials and the original user manus also explains how to do it).

For me, the tool was useful lately since I had to analyze ~300 clips and identify ~20 persons.

The problem is that it is not perfect (which I can understand and accept), but there is no way to add people manually to the metadata - meaning mark a rectangle around a person and add a tag.

Ahh, didn't realize Analysis was required. I figured we could just type in names like Keywords.

Even an AI needs some training ;-)

I wasn't even aware that Analysis was an option. I thought manually tagging was it.

I never use the feature, though.
