.MOV video files not being accepted?

PostTue May 21, 2024 6:14 pm

Hi,

I just got Davinci Resolve Studio 19. I tried to upload .MOV files from my mac to start a video editing project, but got an error message saying the file format isn't accepted. I've tried virtually every method available for uploading them (and did so again after exiting the program, restarting, etc.), but it's not accepting them. I don't get the error message anymore, it just doesn't do anything when I try to upload them.

I understand I can convert the .MOV to a different format... but ALL of my videos are .MOV, and it would be extremely tedious and time-consuming to convert them all before uploading. And I'm not sure whether the conversion would decrease the video quality.

Does Davinci Resolve Studio 19 really not accept .MOV files? Or is there some way to upload them that I'm missing?

Thanks!

Of course DR is accepting .MOV files. But it's only a container. Can you find out which codec is inside?
Or do what Peter suggested.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Here's a short clip from the video I just uploaded to Google Drive: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1vuH2LO ... sp=sharing

I haven't been able to figure out how to find the codec...

What is the full filename of the failing .MOV file? DaVinci Resolve will often reject files with "special" characters in the name. Typical problem for videos downloaded from streaming sites. In doubt rename using only alphanumeric characters "abc123" and try again.

The problem with characters in filenames is different, DR doesn't throw a message, it just ignores the clip. See this lengthy discussion: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=167817

If you get that message as above, it's rather the codec.

Can you tell me how to find the codec? And what do I do if all my videos have codecs that aren't accepted by DR? Will I have to just convert all of them?

The file name doesn't have any special characters in it, so that's not the problem.

Your file works on an M1 Pro MBP running Resolve Studio 19.b2.

If you go to the Resolve Media page, and select the file location in the Media Storage area, does the file appear there? And if so, and you select it, does it appear in the Viewer?

Your footage is in 10 bit and not compatible with DR under Windows. There are three options (in no specific order):
– Get Studio
– Get a Mac
- Transcode

He does mention using a Mac and Resolve Studio. So I guess we need more specific details as to what exactly is happening.

Sure, right now it’s all speculation. But he wrote “from my Mac”, so does that also mean “to my Mac”?
And then, if it’s not a Mac, could that be an unintentional installation of non-Studio? There have been others falling into that trap…
