Do you think DR 19 beta 3 is already usable?

PostSun May 26, 2024 3:01 am

Excluding the "fusion" module, do you think the editing and color tab are already relatively stable? Or do they still have to mature more?

I would like to try the new AI features, such as "Noise Reduction Ultra", but I am afraid that this version will be very unstable.

How stable it is for your computer, os, drivers etc. can be known only by yourself.

It really does not help at all if I say it's stable enough for me, on my computer and the features I use.

Just install it making copy of all the current settings and projects beforehand. And if it's not good enough continue with the stable version.

I have to agree with Panu. I haven't tried Noise Reduction Ultra, but as far as editing and color, I've had no problems on my system.

I believe an edit system should be dedicated to editing. Which means one would need a second machine for other activities like web browsing, email, office, games, etc.

Use that second machine for testing.

It studders while DR opened.

https://youtube.com/shorts/tqrB4eGuVoA?feature=share

Not only in Davinci Resolve, it studders on while using your computer if DR is on.

Waving a node around does not really demonstrate anything. What happens when you run the video? What are your computer specs?

It is almost paradoxical, because the other user who has an i7 from 10 years ago has not had any problems xD

Now I'm testing it with my i7 Alder Lake, 2 generations behind the current one.

Used DR 19 beta 3, at night, for basic editing, and some color adjustments with "Magic Looks/Red Giant", tried "NR ultra", with no problems to report the first night.

I am now using beta 3 on my main system, I needed to use the UltraNR.

I heard you have problems with the fusion tab, but i rarely use that tab normally.

I only heard in the odd YouTube video that they have tested beta 1.

"fusion" is the tab that I use the least, I haven't tried it yet in beta 3, at the moment I don't need it.

I think maybe that's because Fusion is a relatively new addition to davinci, and it also works a little differently than the rest of davinci.

I tried it today. Few stuff missing in fusion that should be there, but so far over all, feels snappier and I like the overall improvements. few crashes in fusion, but that can happen in other versions as well, dependent on what your doing. I would not risk using these beta release if you are working on projects for clients, but if you are testing or working personal stuff you don't care if you delay in case of issues than it should be ok. Its definitely very functional, just not obviously as reliable as final versions. Although there has been few times where I had lot of crashes with some point version, but they usually get fixed. There are some specific bugs people have reported that have not been fixed in few versions, so that is part of the danger if you need those specific things. If you can, install both beta and final release. Just in case.

Open an older version of your project, right click on your project > Project Backups

Or else go back to an earlier version of DR and restore the older database, assuming you've backed up your database before upgrading.

Actually studdering on Davinci Resolve still continues. Driver re-install didnt solve it
I've tried everything to solve but nothing.

About workflow, i use magic masks, defocus background, CST in and out node tree, face refinement, relight and DCTL... almost everything on a feature film. Davinci Resolve 19 is perform %10-15 better than 18, i can say that very clear.

How did i calculate that? almost all effect play at realtime on my system now. I just struggling while using Neat Video ( latest ) on 4K timeline. It was plays 12-13 fps while in Neat NR used on Davinci Resolve 18, but into 19 it plays 15 fps.

I use anamorphic lenses and just noticed a post from another user with a Lumix S1H doing anamorphic de-squeeze failing to have it work with proxies.

That's a pretty big deal for me, so no DR 19 Beta 3 is not ready.

Please state more info on your system.
How is your disk space set up? Do you have dedicated drives for video and/or cache files?
Running everything from one disk is a no no.

IMHO, Neatvideo is still better for critical cases (it's a NR plug-in for DR). I found Ultra NR considerably slower on my hardware and not really better. But YMMV, in particular on Nvidia.

i've just finished a week with a feature on 19.b3, client attended, went well overall, nothing major, a few wobbles, wheel stayed on the cart tho

- magic mask is reliable and super useful now, and it got a major workout on this show
- ultraNR is a first choice now, on a difficualt shot it produced noticably better resualts, 2x producers, director and DP all prefered Ultra + Temporal -to- Neat (this shot had no place for Neat to anylise, had to use the generic template), i did not have DVO installed on the machine i was working on
- Neat is the killer app for beating flicker tho, used it there to great effect
- new color tools are real world useful
- film look is not real world useful
