H.265 Issues - Studio 18.5 - MacOS 13.4 ?

PostFri May 26, 2023 3:51 pm

*** UPDATED ***

I'm using Resolve Studio 18.5 beta 3.

I'm rendering out a mixture of mobile phone footage (unknown phone) and BRAW 8:1 UHD 24fps. Timeline 24fps, UHD.

The timeline plays back totally fine. When rendering out using the H.265 MASTER preset (with no modification), I get sticking frames and often, frame corruption - this appears to happen randomly, but much of the time on any project.

I've reverted back to beta 2, and I'm getting the same issue.

I'm not sure if its only the H.265 profile, but the ProRes, H.264, MP4 profiles seem to work fine.

I didn't get any of this with the previous version of MacOS (13.3) - BUT.. I'd only updated 13.4 within days of updating DRS 18.5b3, so not enough testing was done. Blackmagic, please investigate as this happens on both my brand new MacStudio Ultra machines that both run MacOS 13.4 and only have Resolve installed on them!

Anyone experiencing the same or similar issues? Please check my full machine spec in my signature below.

Are those phone clips constant frame rate?
Maybe you can post one to a cloud service for testing?
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Hi Uli,

Yes, but the issue seems to happen on any clip.. drone footage (h.265), mobile phone footage and CBR 8:1 CBR BRAW.. also happens on files I’ve exported and used from MOTION 5 - pro res 4:4:4. BUT, I’ve only noticed these issues if I export using the H.265 MASTER profile and seems to be worse if I export 422 multi-pass H.265. Exporting anything else (thus far), appears to be ok. I’ve only noticed this since updating to MacOS 10.4 which I noticed updated/added pro video codecs - not sure if this has anything to do with the issue?

Last week all this was working fine and never had an issue under MacOS 10.3.

UPDATE: Just noticed there is another thread on this viewtopic.php?f=21&t=181606
