BRAW Playback Performance

PostMon May 29, 2023 9:13 pm

I'm using a Mac Studio M1 Ultra with a 64-core GPU and 64GB of RAM. Running Monterey 12.6.6.

I'm noticing that compared to the officially released DR18 version, BRAW actually struggles to playback smoothly. It scrubs amazingly, but when watching the clips I see it skipping every a bit. Very surprised by this. It also takes a second for the fps indicator to reach real-time. I believe this is a GPU decoding bug.

Thanks,
Dan

I can’t reproduce that here, even on a far slower machine, my 2017 iMac beta ‘sandbox’. It’s not really challenged by 4.6K BRAW at all.
Are you sure that your source fps and the setting in the timeline are identical?
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

It’s likely a bug with Apple Silicon GPU decoding. It’s also braw from a new camera, the S5IIX, so maybe that has something to do with it. Yes, source is interpreted 4k 60fps to 24fps in a 24fps timeline. Never had issues before. I should mention this “stuttering” is super minor. Almost looks like frame skipping every now and then. But when I go frame by frame, it’s all good. The fps indicator being slow to hit 23.976 is really what is telling me something is off.

Can you post a link to a sample clip?
