Picture on int. monitor way darker after installing 19b3

PostFri May 24, 2024 8:33 pm

Today installed latest Davinci Resolve 19 Beta 3. Suddenly image on internal monitor screen in all tabs (cut, edit, color, deliver) became way darker for all projects. In previous version Davinci Resolve 19 Beta 2 they were perfectly OK. If I press Ctrl-F for full screen monitoring it stays the same - dark. Nothing changed in Resolve or my monitor (hardware) settings apart of the upgrade from 19b2 to 19b3.

Picture on thumbnails is OK (in terms of exposure), exported video is OK ( in terms of exposure). All those corresponds to what I see on the scopes and what more or less is correct exposure. Only picture on internal monitor window has become way too dark in some cases almost black ! Project configuration and timeline both have Rec706 Gama 2.4 for timeline and output color space.

Here is an example:

Cut tab in Resolve Image
Edit tab in Resolve Image
Color tab in Resolve Image
Full screen Video Monitor in Resolve (Ctrl-F) Image
Full screen Exported Video (player) Image

The only way to get a good and bright image on the internal monitor is to switch timeline color space to Linear and output color space: Same as timeline. But this screws my export and it becomes way too bright.

Seems to be a problem (or bug) introduced with version 19b3. Anybody else having similar problem ? Or know how to fix it ?

Thanks

I haven't seen this myself. Could this be the result of HDR Viewers in Windows being added to beta 3?

Same problem for me. May be related to HDR, but still need a solution. I go back to B2 ...

Have a look in Preferences/System/General. I can reproduce a similar result if this is checked.

Hi Charles,

many thanks, very good tip. I had switched off HDR in Windows and thought it was doing it properly. Looks like DR does not read the configuration correctly.

best regards,
Holger

Are all you guys having that setting turned on by itself after the update?

I had to do it manually.

Hi Stef,

Could you please let us know the following:

1. Did you manually turn on the HDR option in Resolve preferences? Or was it somehow auto-enabled for you?
2. When you have the Resolve HDR option enabled as well as the Windows OS HDR option enabled, does it look incorrect?

Regards,
Vivek

1. In my case, the option starts enabled apparently since I installed the Beta 3 version.
2. I couldn't enable HDR on my OS, I have windows 10 and an SDR monitor. It would be incredible if this worked, sometimes I do mixes in HDR but for this I use a conversion LUT that I made to give me an idea of what it will look like in HDR.
