Blackmagic Cloud Pod – Issues Connecting from Windows 11

PostSun Feb 09, 2025 10:37 am

Hi everyone,

I'm having trouble connecting to my Blackmagic Cloud Pod from Windows 11, while it works perfectly on my Mac without any issues.

On Windows 11, when trying to connect via SMB, I keep running into various authentication and permission errors. I have already tried:

Using the Cloud Pod’s IP address instead of the network name.
Enabling SMB2/3 in Windows.
Adjusting Windows Defender Firewall to allow SMB connections.
Modifying Group Policy to allow insecure guest logins.
Checking Local Network settings (ensuring Private network, etc.).
Despite all this, I still can’t get it to work. However, I’ve seen some recommendations online suggesting that I should disable Secure Negotiate (RequireSecureNegotiate = 0) in the Windows registry.

Before I make such a security compromise, I’d like to ask:

Has anyone else experienced this issue with Cloud Pod on Windows 11?
Is disabling Secure Negotiate really necessary, or is there another solution that works?
Are there specific Windows 11 settings that Blackmagic recommends for Cloud Pod compatibility?
Since the Cloud Pod works perfectly on macOS, this really seems to be a Windows-specific issue. Any insights or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

I’m genuinely surprised by how completely the Cloud Pod lacks anything that could be considered modern security.

Thanks in advance.

I'm also struggling with Windows 11 and my CLoud Pod. No problem with OSX Sequoia and even Window 10.

Cloud Store Manual V1.6 P9

Windows 11 no longer allows ‘guest’ accounts that don’t require a username and
password to connect to network storage. Before accessing your Blackmagic Cloud
Store’s storage over a network, you will need to create a new user and set a password
using Blackmagic Cloud Store setup. For information on creating and managing users,
see ‘security’ in the ‘Blackmagic Cloud Store Setup’ section of the manual.

This set requires a USB connection.
And I had to disconnect once from Windows and reconnect with a new ID password entry.
