Cloud Presentations Upload - Error: "Upload Failed"

PostFri Sep 22, 2023 5:17 pm

When uploading a short clip to a Presentation in Blackmagic Cloud (30 seconds to ±2 minutes), everything works, no problem.

But when I'm uploading my full timeline (30 minutes to 1 hour), I see the following popup dialogue:

Important notes:
• This didn't use to be the case. I was able to upload 30-minute videos to 1-hour videos to Presentations, back in 18.5 when Presentations were first announced.
• I started having the problem somewhere around 18.5.1, and even still in 18.6.
• No Media is offline
• I have an active plan for Blackmagic Cloud ($5 USD/mo)

I have this same problem. Paid for the database, small extract of film works fine. Whole film of 20 minutes failed.

Update: SOLVED - It was not clear but the longer film would not upload because I had not enough storage to accommodate the file. Now upgraded to the 500GB storage and all works fine.
I could not find anywhere that this was the case.

Interesting. I read "Storage" as use of their actual media storage upload from the new iOS Blackmagic Camera app. Very happy to hear that you had success upgrading though! Will have to do the same.

Cheers

→ Anyone from Blackmagic reading this:
Please display a reason for for WHY the upload failed—i.e. "Internet connection lost," "Not enough Cloud storage," "Some media is offline," etc.

Re: SOLVED: Cloud Presentations Upload - Error: "Upload Fail

I have a payed plan for 500gb and still the upload fails.
My timeline (Atem) is 45 minutes long and I have tried several times now but it get a Upload Failed.
Changed the setting from 4k to HD but still nothing.

Blackmagic: it would help a lot If there was some error message. Now it is just a shot in the dark and... a very very poor utility. Please give us more information on how to use tool so it works.

Thanks.

I've got the same issue, upload failed, no other reason. Also, not a huge fan of the limited amount of options for codecs, etc. Can't send a share link, instead I have to invite the people into the presentation.

Also, it should allow us to find where this file is, like "Reveal in Finder" so we can see what was exported.
There are still a number of problems/user experience issues with the whole presentations implementation so far...I'd love to move away from Frame.io but I can't really utilize Presentations in the same way yet.

Me too. Exported H.264 MP4 size on disk=1.5 GB. Trying the free cloud; Upload failed 3X although each render took 4 or so minutes and green bar completed. Maybe not ready for Prime time.

If anyone from BlackMagic reads this I would really prefer to upload either a timeline or project, (within the 2GB limit of course).

Constantly having this problem, and no way to adjust manually. What is going on?

Re: Cloud Presentations Upload - Error: "Upload Failed"

I'm just starting to use Blackmagic Cloud and aim to use Presentations at least monthly if not more.

I figured out the whole 'not enough storage in the free account problem' myself, but am still having problems uploading a 2.5hr timeline to a presentation. I've uploaded several smaller 5min excerpts from the timeline in question so I know this works.

I can upload a 2.5hr timeline up to 99% or so and it tends to fail at that point. I did a diagnostic dump (see the Help menu in Resolve) and looking at the log it shows a network error on the BMC end, some sort of timeout. Looking at the log for earlier failures to finish and I see Cloudflare issues as well as BMC issues occurring.

Note that it may be my modest 40mbps upload speed that limits this, but the uploads are getting the full bandwidth and I shouldn't be seeing timeouts!

I'm REALLY looking forward to using Presentations, but need to be able to upload 2hr+ timelines to make this happen!

Update - Yep, the upload timeouts after about a hour or so and then fails. If you can upload faster and come in under that hour then you're OK. I did that by splitting the timeline, and both uploaded fine. You can see this happening in the diagnostics log I mentioned earlier, BTW.

I did notice that the same bitrate is used no matter the resolution of the timeline as the upload package was the same basic size whether the timeline was rendered as 2160p, 1080p or 720p. If you could choose a lower bitrate (or it lowered the bitrate with the lower resolutions automatically) then by simply lowering the timeline's resolution before rendering to a Presentation you might have a better chance of beating that hour or so timeout that seems to be the limiting factor.

But that is what is going on generally speaking (though I did see the occasional Cloudflare error in the log from earlier attempts), and the workaround is to split the timeline up so the upload is less than an hour.

But this needs to be fixed on Blackmagic's side, they just need to extend the timeout if it's possible or work around the problem in code, maybe by stopping and then restarting the upload newly before the timeout can occur.
