Cloud Issues

PostTue Mar 11, 2025 1:27 pm

We’re experiencing significant problems with our group project. Everything was going smoothly until about a week ago when odd issues began occurring. One user is unable to hear audio on a specific timeline, while I can. Additionally, he’s been facing more frequent crashes with his computer. This issue seems to have started around the same time a fourth person joined our cloud project.

I found out last night that this fourth individual has logged into the project using the same license as one of the others in the project. He only has the free version of DR, so the show's producer provided him with her license. She is also logged in using this license.

Could this lead to problems in the cloud project? I set this up, and I noticed that in another project within the same cloud, I encountered issues with a completed colour grade. Suddenly, the colours changed across all clips. The timeline level nodes shifted to something that now doesn't have the CST, and there are now other nodes there that I would never have added that suddenly appeared.

I don't have an answer for you on this, only commiseration. The Cloud "workflow" is a dumpster fire. We have had a nightmare of a time with it from start to finish, and it is unfortunately our only option at present. From the Cloud Stores to the Cloud Website to the PCC 6k Pros uploading footage to the project to the basic functionality of the Cloud projects, N I G H T M A R E ... I will be talking to them at NAB next month, so we'll see, but you are NOT alone.

They have fixed some issues and after NAB I have more reassurance that the workflow is currently being worked on actively. Some things I learned at NAB are that they strongly recommend never being more than 1 OS versions behind the current version on Mac.

Cam 2 Cloud - I cant speak for the other cameras, but at least for the PCCs using the firmware 8.6, that release IS a BETA version. They are asking for all the feedback they can get to develop it faster, so anything you experience make sure to submit that feedback to the Dev's.

Another gem gleaned at NAB was that they have reassured me that the best policy for Resolve stability is to keep Resolve current. Even mid project! Obviously back up, but they (the Developers) told me that their main goal in the development of the software and the update process, is to Maintain project integrity throughout the versions so there is no fear in upgrading even mid project. This was a Major concern of mine as we have an ongoing doc started on 18.5. We were having a lot of issues and when they learned I was on 18.5 still they literally said in unison..."UPGRADE!" Lol. I can tell you that I have upgraded successfully to 19 with zero issues in any of our daily or doc projects, and just upgraded to 20 as well with no issues. We are between shoots so I have yet to see if there are any issues with our Cam 2 Cloud workflow on v20, but I remain hopeful given the changes I have seen since the conversations I had at the show.

I am also happy to tell you that I brought up many (like 15 or so) issues to their developers there at the show, most were cloud workflow issues, and several have been addressed.

One thing that may also be helpful, the Camera Developers told me to always format using the iOS option when formatting in camera and always format in camera. I hope this helps you on your journey and fingers crossed they get this thing working better here soon!

Cheers!
