Struggling to use Presentations in Resolve 19/20

PostThu Jun 05, 2025 8:33 am

Perhaps some if the issues I'm seeing will need to be feature requests, but it is extremely hard to use Presentations and/or the markers it leaves in Resolve.

When deleting clips in Resolve, sometimes the markers ripple delete, sometimes they don't, which shifts them out of sync in the timeline and is an enormous mess.

Deleting a marker in Resolve, deletes it everywhere, including in earlier versions of the timeline and in Presentations (online). That's unworkable because then you have no history of comments. But then if you leave the completed comments/markers in the timeline, they stay there forever creating a really confusing situation moving forward when you iterate timelines to preserve history.

Really not working at all.

Replying to a comment in Resolve only adds it as another comment in Presentations. No connection to the original comment whatsoever. Really confusing and worthless.

Can't copy contents of a comment, so if a client adds a note with a link, or some specific text they'd like to add to the timeline, you can't copy and paste it. Rewriting a URL is painful.

There's probably more.

Presentations and it's interface with Resolve has so much potential and would be SUCH a welcome replacement to Vimeo Review and all of the other review tools out there. But it needs LOTS of work to get there. Happy to discuss my recommendations in person and give as much time as needed to help get it right.

Ok - I figured out a work around to the issue of markers disappearing and not moving with edits and generally being a pain. You can copy the contents of your timeline (select all clips, copy) to a new timeline (paste) and then you can stack the timelines over each other and start editing the new timeline without disrupting the notes in the previous version. 8-) A bit of a pain, and makes it very similar to just working in Vimeo or Frame IO - but a small step in the right direction

A couple of other suggestions to add to Presentations:

- folders in the cloud to organise videos better
- stackable versions in Presentation Cloud so you can keep track of multiple iterations and not lose notes/comments.
- when you go to output a timeline in Resolve to Presentations, it should remember the last project you were adding to. Currently it just defaults to the top project in the list which is a areal pain. If you forget, you have to delete the file on Presentations and start again - which is a nightmare if you have a long edit.
- you should be able to easily locate the output file that Resolve creates when exporting to Presentations. Currently there is no way to locate that file, so if you want to send it somewhere else, you have to do another entirely new output.
- you should be able to upload files directly to Presentations and manage the files on Presentations to organise them. Currently you can only upload to Presentation via Resolve.
- you can't edit or change files in Presentation at all. You can ONLY delete them. That needs to change. More control of the files in Presentations is key.

I think you can rename in Presentations but the space for the title is too small to be useful.
A system of archiving timeline marker comments by date and author would be really helpful. Maybe a tab to view the assets or a title view for the stack of clips? A tab to peruse comment history? A means for adding the comments from archive to an autosaved timeline? Publishing subtitles to Presentations is a must! Currently I render out a subtitled version, reimport to publish to Presentations. Maybe an additional way to upload media? eg: "Should we use these stills?". Directories in Presentations for managing assets?
It's early days for what looks like a really useful feature.
