3G-SDI Arduino Shield - Multicam Setup

PostMon Aug 29, 2016 1:06 pm

Hey guys, Sven here,

I'm working on a project with a multicam setup (BM Micro Studio Cameras) and wanted to ask, if there is a way to connect two or more Cameras with only one Arduino Shield for syncing all the preferences?

Can I put the preference input just into one main camera and line up the others or do I have to split the SDI signal from the shield?

Would be great, if someone could help me with this!

Thanks already and have a great time!

Greetings,
Sven

Hello Sven. If all cameras are to have "Exactly" the same settings, you can put an SDI DA on the Shield output and feed the cameras. They would all need the same Camera ID and tally would be the same for all. If you want to have different settings for each of the cameras, you would need a separate Shield for each camera.

Hey Gary,

thank you for your fast answer! I'm glad it is as simple as I thought.

Now I only got to find a solution for my programming problem and I'm ready to go.

Thanks for your help!

Hi!

I'm also looking for a multicam setup with Studio Camera 4k and try to figure it out before i buy the arduino shield:
As i understand it, the first byte of the package is the destination camera ID (example page 25 in the arduion shield manual) so is there no way to controll all cameras indivdually over one shield?

Or maybe there was an update on the protocol since this post from 2016?

Cheers!

You've always been able to control multiple cameras independently from the shield. I think there was a miscommunication between those 2. If you're wanting to use a single shield to control multiple cameras you can absolutely do that.

I’ll apologize for the miscommunication there. My last line was incorrect as one shield can control multiple cameras software wiling. Don’t recall that long ago what I was thinking of. I hope this helps. Gary.
