Video Hub Cables Recommendations

PostThu Nov 30, 2023 5:44 pm

Hello,

We are getting new AV equipment for our church. We can not have any hiccups with the video feed going out! Would you recommend the following cables or any other cables that will work and why?

    Belden 1694a
    Canare L-45CHD
    trueCABLE RG6 Quad Shield Coax

Would we be okay with the trueCABLE on Amazon?
trueCABLE RG6 Quad Shield Coax, 500ft, Black, Riser Rated (CMR/CATVR/CL2), Bare Copper Conductor Coaxial Cable, 3GHz Sweep Tested

Sincerely,

Nick

That's tough to answer without understanding your full signal flow (resolutions, distances, destination devices, etc).
I can tell you, for distributing 3G throughout our church, we've heavily used Belden 1694a and never had an issue.
A decent quality RG6 Quad will probably be fine as well.

We'll be streaming in house at 1080@29.97. Distances will be about 250 ft to each TV from the Video Hub. Desination device will be standard HDTV (we'll be converting the SDi signal to HDMI with the BMD SDi to HDMi converter.

This. You cannot even begin to get answers until you post that.

One other thing to remember...are you building for today, or do you also have an eye on tomorrow. Equipment is easy to replace...cable infrastructure is not.

Today, I wouldn’t waste time with cable that wasn’t rated for 12G. The cost of integration will far outstrip the materials, the difference between 12G and 3G is ultimately minimal.

Good Luck

I posted this last week on this thread: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=191625&p=997067#p997067

I just received my 40 x 40 as well and am in the process of wiring everything up. One big takeaway so far for anyone reading this, don't forget to budget for cabling. I just wired my studio with 2,000' of cable runs ( using L-5.5CUHD )and am now wiring my hub ( using L-3.3CUHD). Using Canare 12G-SDI cable I am well over $3,000. For that however I have the ability to custom create each cable to the exact length vs buying off the shelf cabling.

While the initial cost is hefty when comparing it against buying off the shelf cabling I saved about $2,000 ( at least ) and was able to keep things nice and tight.
