Blackmagic Microconverter - weird output functionality

PostMon May 20, 2024 8:37 am

Hi all,

Hoping someone may have some insight!

I am running in a very old venue without a lot of budget and have been doing small upgrades here and there to improve functionality. One of these is replacing an old semi-functional stage feed for laptops to the foh booth with a better system to both take laptop feed into the foh and send comfort monitor back. Chain is:

pulse switcher - hdmi split - blackmagic microconverter hdmi - sdi 3g.

One feed from the microconverter goes to a decklink 8 to feed our vmix rig for presentation display in our livestreams.

The other goes into one of two 25m SDI cable runs through the ceiling to stage rack and into a BM Bi-Directional converter, out the hdmi and into the comfort monitor.

This has worked well other than a few resolution hiccups for a year.

On the weekend a tech had an issue with the comfort monitor not receiving signal. On checking the usual suspects this morning I found that while using the right SDI out on the HDMI-SDI converter I would not get signal to the monitor, on swapping to the right one I would.

The vmix is receiving signal on either left or right output.

Does anyone have any input/insight into why this may be? I can get everything running but not knowing why this sudden change and what the cause is makes me nervous, especially as i'm about to go on annual leave for a couple of weeks with significant client events in that time, so want to make sure there is no potential for further issues.
