ATEM Switchers 9.6.2, exciting !

PostThu Sep 12, 2024 8:02 pm

Blackmagic Design today announced ATEM Switchers 9.6.2 update which adds support for Visca over IP camera control on all ATEM Constellation models. Now customers can control up to 100 PTZ cameras via their network using the IP address of the camera. This update also adds audio output mapping for all Constellation HD models, as well as new multi-view and SuperSource features for HD and 4K models. Plus it provides support for 30 and 60 fps formats in all HD, Ultra HD and 8K standards for ATEM Constellation 8K.

8K model will stay in the race 8-)

Apparently the developers at BMD don't know what semantic versioning means. So many new features in what is numbered as a patch/bugfix release :(

But good to see that finally now also SuperSource borders are now supported again on HD and 4K Constellation models. In the next update please add support for border radius.

MRMC AFC-100 head.

This is what we use with our Ursa Broadcast G2s. It can take up to 15kg load.

We also use it with their Polymotion Chat and Studio autotracking software, so perfect for conference/studio use.

We also have this system, the Axibo PT4, it also comes with a small slider and it does autotracking, which is actually pretty good. It's about 20% of the price of the AFC-100.

We also purchased their zoom motor for it, so we can control iris on a remote Ursa Broadcast G2 via ethernet 2km from video control. Remarkable.

Now if they would just post the update <g> -- I dunno, my Sony PTZ cameras were not cheap and they look great. Same with the Canon CR-N series.

I wonder if anyone who went to IBC can confirm that BMD was actually demonstrating 9.6.2 at the booth and this isn't just an elaborate ruse.

Heads up that you'll need more than 10.5GB of hard drive space available to install the update.

Would be really nice if the installer could be split up a bit, rather than including all the firmware for all the Atem's ever, when all you want is the control app to upload an image.

Edit: There's also a new feature where you'll also need to make sure you've set your Atem to allow administration from USB and Network (something you can only do using the USB) to do the firmware update. So if you've never set this before, and it's in a rack somewhere, you're going to need to go find it and a suitable cable.

Honestly that wouldn't help all that much. The firmware file for the previous gen 2ME 4K is 9.9MB, whereas the Constellation 8K is 211MB. Essentially the size of the firmware is directly measurable to the functionality/power of the model.
So of the 2.4GB which is the firmware files, I doubt that removing the discontinued models would save more than a 200MB.
Unless they did different installers for different models, but then thats going to be a nightmare both for them to produce and for all the people who use more than one atem model/generation (which I expect is a large proportion of the users)

The bits that bug me are the 800MB of 'Example Graphics', and the 900MB of manuals which are included both inside the zip of the installer, and inside the installer itself.

Was hoping we could get the 4k/8k version of supersource borders (allowing for shadows/bevels)? Is that possible?

Yeah, the bugfix is that the features were not enabled on MOST of their product line <g>

Sure, I'd like this feature, but I won't pound the table for it. I just wanted to have feature parity with my PS2ME, and now I do.

I did note that the border option is not available until you ensure that the artwork button "behind" is selected. At first I thought something was wrong as I couldn't activate border - but I had been using my 4ME unit with the SS hack of having a graphic in foreground that had the border around the source "holes"

I am sort of excited about the PTZ control, but unless I am spread thin, I already have discreet controllers for cams. That, and very nervous about max network connections.

Anyone else having issues since updating to 9.6.2?

Our 4 ME Constellation HD appears normal in ATEM Software Control for a minute or so, and then, for no apparent reason, appears to go offline: “No Switcher Connected”. It comes back up in a few seconds. It goes on & on, repeating this cycle until it is powered off.

However, MixEffect never seems to lose connectivity to the ATEM, continues controlling the ATEM.

Not sure what’s going on?

I checked TP-Link network switch logs; doesn’t show any status changes on the ATEMs port which further suggests the ATEM remains connected to the network despite the message in software control.

And, yes, I have power cycled the ATEM since updating software.

The ATEM is connected directly to our network switch, and connected to Mac Studio via USBc.

Not sure what to make of all this???

I installed the new firmware 9.6.2 to operate visca cameras on my atem 2 m/e HD but it didn't work. Atem I configured everything and it recognized the camera but the panel says that this equipment does not support visca cameras

Installed it on an 4 M/E Constellation HD. SuperSource borders work using the ATEM software GUI. I've also updated an 1 M/E Advanced Panel and there the border option is not selectable. Will raise a ticket...
