Atem Mini Pro ISO recording quality reduction

PostSat Sep 14, 2024 12:31 pm

We have been using an Atem Mini Pro ISO for almost 4 years. Recently we had a problem that ours will stop recording and give issues with live streaming as if the unit "hangs". You cant stop recording or live streaming, buffer runs full and nothing happens. We noticed it was doing this when our SSD got half way so we thought the SSD is faulty and causing it. Other than that everything worked fine if we do not record while streaming or if we record with a clean empty SSD.

We live stream and record 2x camera inputs at 1920x1080p 25fps. We replaced the SSD with a 500GB Sandisk Extreme SSD (other recommended these drives online with high praise). First our unit was still on v8.4 or v8.6 i can't recall. It did not want to detect or pickup the 500GB SSD. We updated to latest v9.6.1, whereafter it detects the SSD.

First we ran into a "error" that when we connect the Sandisk SSD with our old usb-c cable that there was a small orange triangle/exclamation mark thing. We took it that this means the cable is not fast enough, it worked before but whatever, replaced it with the cable we got with the SSD. "Error" goes away.

We noticed that before, with old firmware and SSD that we could record almost 2minutes for every one minute that the ATEM says there is available on the SSD, we thought its because we only use 2 camera inputs and not all 4. With latest firmware and new SSD we noticed that now we can record almost 4 minutes for every one minute that ATEM says is available on SSD.

This is where our problem lies, we have a weird thing that if we go to the RAW recordings under "Video ISO Files" folder the video will have weird flickers at the bottom of the video recordings. Upon looking at the quality of the video file it states that the video recording quality is (more or less) 37mb/s. Old files recorded before firmware update and new SSD shows (more or less) 89mb/s. Somehow for some reason the quality of recording is lower, and that is (i guess) why we have the weird flickers and the "longer" recording capacities.

I have looked everywhere online and every one states that you can not change or increase the recording quality. I experimented with different streaming settings (its all i can change in ATEM software). Tried the hyperdeck high quality and the streaming high quality but it stays the same on recordings.

We stream to youtube and as far as i can see that still looks the same. The bitrate while streaming is (about) 6mb/s the same as on old firmware. So streaming looks fine, just the recordings are not good.

Am i missing something? Some setting or does someone have some insight for me on how to get recording quality up again.

SSD specs is 1000mb/s up and down on their website. Tested on a pc we can get 1000mb read and 500mb write speed but i guess that's the pcs max (these are sequential speeds). The old SSD tested 500mb read and 500mb write. We use recordings for when internet cuts out during live streams to upload or if something was not right during live stream to edit recordings and then upload.
