Feature request: Increase data/bit rate of Blackmagic Camera

Testing the data rate / bit rate of the Blackmagic iPhone Camera app, I was disappointed to not see options to change the video data rate; the default appears to be very low.

Testing out a near exact video shot of 20 seconds with the same movement (dolly); I got some interesting results.

All video set to 4K 60fps HDR 10-bit HLG (BT2020 colourspace with 2100 transfer) with Dolby Vision HEVC; zero dropped frames. The below are average data rates for the video files captured:


iPhone native camera app: average 52 mbit/sec

Final Cut camera app: average 52 mbit/sec

Pro Camera app (set to maximum): average 120 mbit/sec

Filmic Pro app (set to maximum): average 120 mbit/sec

Blackmagic Camera app: average 38 mbit/sec



Blackmagic Camera seems to be very low in comparison. I re-ran separate tests and had similar results.


Please could Blackmagic give us the option to increase the data rates for video capture in the app.

Shoot ProRes not hevc

Changing codecs wasn’t my request, I’m sure there are many other people who wish to shoot hevc and still have data rate options.
