Davinci Resolve Replay Editor - Small Replay System

PostSat Oct 19, 2024 7:46 pm

Hello everyone,

I'm a long time BMD user with different products (Atem Mini, Constellation, Hyperdecks, Web Presenters, converters, cameras, ...).

I recently acquired the Davinci Resolve Replay Editor to use with my kits. For a small event I'm trying to get it to work with my Atem Mini Extreme Iso and Davinci Resolve Studio on a Macbook Pro M1 Max.

I've carefully reviewed the documentation and videos on the BMD YT channel but I still got a couple questions.

Currently, my setup is installed as follows :

- Atem Mini Extreme ISO (power, ethernet to my router, USB-C A to my laptop and USBC-B to external SSD)
- Macbook Pro (power, USB-C coming from the Atem, USB-C connecting the Davinci Resolve Replay Editor and HDMI out back into the ATEM)
- Davinci Resolve Studio where I open the growing files from cameras currently recording on the Atem

Here is my issue. The HDMI output on the Mac works when I'm preparing the replay and watch it in full screen (using the HDMI out as a dual screen setup in the Davinci functions) BUT when I press "Run", Davinci shows the multicam with tally borders on the current video. This is shown on my primary screen and the secondary screen (the one on the HDMI output back into the Atem) which means anyone watching the livestream would see all my cameras at the same time with the tally borders.

I read on some topics that it was recommended to use the UltraStudio to get replays and stingers (key and fill) out to the Atem Mini, is anyone able to confirm that this is what is missing from my installation to get it to work properly ? I don't have the UltraStudio yet so I'd need to buy one and want to make sure before running in the store :)

Thanks a lot for reading !

Alright, after some research (and buying an UltraStudio 4K Mini) I found the solution and everything seems to be working fine.

Here is how I set it up :

- Atem Mini Extreme Iso :
-- Connected via USB-A to my laptop
-- Connected via USB-B to a Samsung T7 external SSD
-- Connected on HDMI inputs 2-5 to my cameras
-- Connected on HDMI input 1 to the UltraStudio 4K Mini HDMI Output

- UltraStudio 4K Mini :
-- Connected via Thunderbolt to my laptop (Macbook Pro M1 Max)
-- Connected via HDMI coming from my laptop (into the HDMI Input of the UltraStudio)
-- Connected via HDMI out to the Atem Mini HDMI Input 1

- Davinci Resolve Replay Editor connected to the laptop via bluetooth or USBC

Then install Desktop Capture, make sure you give it all the security access asked at the end of the install. You may have to restart your Macbook in recovery mode to authorise extensions from identified developers.

Once the computer is restarted, open Davinci Resolve and in the settings ("Preferences") then Video and Audio I/O set the monitor device as UltraStudio 4K (as in the attached picture). From then, simply follow the BMD video showcasing the replay (import growing files from the Atem SSD and start cutting your replays, when you press "Run", it'll show as a full screen of the selected camera on the Atem, when you "Dump" it'll show the multiview of selected cameras again.

Hope that helps anyone ! Thanks to all the people who answered various related questions in different topics, this helped a lot to find my way through this.

Yes you'll need either an ultrastudio or the media player 10g.
