Problem with ATEM and live streaming

PostWed Oct 30, 2024 3:19 am

I haven’t live streamed in some months. Of course I kicked myself for announcing me and my girlfriend were going live for a performance on our Facebook page when I haven’t tried in so many months, but I figured since the last time we went live and many times before that everything was pretty smooth. I’ve done this enough where I can troubleshoot well enough to get us going. Stupid me!

Like many other on this board, looks like going back to 2020, they’re not able to get youTube or Facebook to “grab” the signal from their ATEM. The ATEM just blinks ON AIR in red and doesn’t connect. I spent two full days trying every possible combination of settings and read about 1,000 posts on the internet and tried them all. Finally, what worked for me was turning Internet Sharing on on my Mac, which I’ve never had to do before.

The initial post that helped me said to set the “Share your computer from:” to WiFi and then the “To computers using:” to the Ethernet the ATEM was on, which in my case is Ethernet 2. But the ATEM shows up in that list, too. Why wouldn’t I select that instead of the Ethernet the ATEM is plugged into?

That FINALLY worked for me and youTube grabbed the stream. But does that mean the ATEM is using WiFi to send the signal? I don’t want the Wifi involved in any part of this. I need the hardwired Ethernet. I tried different settings, like the first box I selected Ethernet 1 and the second box to Ethernet 2. That’s how it’s plugged in on my computer. Ethernet 1 is from my modem and Ethernet 2 goes to my ATEM. That is working now but it’s contrary to the post that I was reading. I just don’t understand how any of this Internet Sharing thing is working. Another guy said Thunderbolt Bridge, which is another option in the second box, needs to be checked. When I checked that, they I couldn’t get any internet!

After another full day of dealing with the audio dropping in and out and getting the “YouTube is not receiving enough video to maintain smooth streaming.” error message I’m so frustrated and it sounds like I’m not the only one. What the heck happened to my perfect streaming set up?! And it looks like it’s happening to a lot of other people. The answers/solutions are many and varied. You would think someone would have figured out what’s going on by now. I hope this post will drum up some more solid answers.

How are your computer and Atem connected up to the internet?

It sounds like you've got one network cable between your Mac and your router, and another between your Mac and the Atem?

" The ATEM just blinks ON AIR in red and doesn’t connect." Usually means the ATEM is not connected to the Internet.
Why don't you use one cable and split the signal to the computer and ATEM?

To me this sounds like network config issues. Can you supply more details about the network?

1. The cable plugged into the ATEM, where does the other end go to?
2. How is your Mac connected to the network? Cable or WiFi?
3. What router - modem - switches etc. Do you have?

Please also check the obvious things - it can be easy for a cable to look like it's plugged in but isn't etc. It may well be a problem with something other than the ATEM or Mac.
