2110 Comms Latency

PostWed Aug 21, 2024 12:52 am

I have 2 units of the 3x3 2110 box for testing. My setup was just point to point, with no switch in between. I just tried with comm through the ATEM and there is a big problem of latency. I know there is a 2-3 frame latency or something for the conversion, but the problem is that your own voice is part of the comm line and when you have 3 frames (so ~50ms) of latency sending your voice to the party line, then another 3 frames of latency coming back your around 100ms delay of hearing your own voice and it's obnoxious at best, and outright impossible to talk at worst.

I haven't done any testing by putting it on a network with PTP and getting reference synced with the ATEM (maybe I'll get time tomorrow to test that), but would that solve the issue? Or is the issue just inherent to the way all the coversions need to happen? Flow is camera>sdi>ip>sdi>atem>sdi>ip>sdi>camera

Properly clocked the delay should be a few microseconds not a few frames.

Good Luck
