ATEM Intermittently doesn't start YouTube stream

PostMon Aug 23, 2021 1:53 pm

Hi forum!
I've just installed an ATEM Mini Pro for a client to allow them to stream to YouTube.

The ATEM is connected via Ethernet to the client's network, and the correct YouTube stream key is set in the ATEM.

9 times out of 10, pressing "GO LIVE" will correctly start a new stream on the client's YouTube channel. However, in around 1 in 10 times, pressing "GO LIVE" fails to start a new stream on YouTube!

YouTube indicates an "excellent connection", but just sits there awaiting data to be sent.

Meanwhile, the ATEM indicates data is being sent, the cache is OK, and it's "ON AIR" (solid red).

Pressing "OFF AIR", waiting a couple of minutes and trying again usually works, but obviously the client is getting frustrated that it's not working for them every time.

I'm at a loss as to what the issue may be, so I would appreciate any guidance? As I say, YouTube recognizes when there's a connection from the ATEM (as monitoring in YouTube Studio shows "Excellent Connection" a few seconds after pressing "ON AIR"), but the unit doesn't always seem to send any data to YouTube (or rather, nothing is being received by YouTube), despite the ATEM indicating that data is being sent.

For reference, the ATEM Mini Pro has the latest firmware.

Anyone encountered this before? (i.e. pressing "ON AIR" doesn't always start a new stream on YouTube)

We have the same issue with our new installation of an ATEM Mini Pro. It seems as if the stream button only functions for YouTube if we have already gone to YouTube Live first. That is what appears to be happening.
When the on air button is pushed the MView shows that we are streaming but it never starts at YouTube. This defeats our desire to have operators simply push one button. And we also are running on the most current firmware.

We have the same issue with our ATEM Mini Pro. When I press the stream button, the Youtube streaming appears to work, but it isn't live. When I stop streaming and start again, it works. So, it works sort of every other time. This will not work out well with our user.

The ON AIR shows on MView, but the Youtube Studio shows that it is waiting for a connection.

Any solutions to this? I'm thinking of another provider that could simulcast to Youtube, such as Vimeo or Restream, but I'd like to keep it simple if possible.

Same issue for us on a BMD Mini Extreme. Solid Red "On Air", YouTube indicates "excellent connection" but the stream is not live. We verified the key was correct. Stopping and starting did not fix it. Has BMD responded with any thoughts or solutions? I created and entered a new key and it started fine this time.
Frustrating for our church that it's intermittent and unpredictable. I appreciate any help.

I just use the ATEMs and Web Presenters as input devices to a laptop and then use OBS or Wirecast or Streamyard to stream - lots more control, add graphics, etc. Sometimes have used the direct streaming from the hardware as a B stream for backup purposes.

I know you're supposed to be able to stream straight from them, but they're much more useful to me as input devices vs streaming devices.
