ATEM mini ISO Extreme PGM out HDMI to VGA projector

When I output the HDMI straight to a HDMI to VGA adaptor into a SANYO 7000 lumen projector the image come out black and green. I tried going through an expensive splitter and a cheap splitter nothing worked. What did solve the issue what transmitting through a hollyland mars 400. Why and how does this solve the issue?
