ATEM Mini - ethernet connection problems

PostFri Mar 07, 2025 10:35 am

Hi, I am trying to connect my ATEM Mini to a laptop via ethernet so that I can control audio and camera switching from a separate computer to that which is connected via USBC. I am using vMix on the other computer which needs to take the camera feed directly via USBC but I want a separate computer to be able to operate ATEM Mini via the software.

Rather than connecting to the local network (this will cause problems in my current set up as I'll be at a huge venue where I don't have easy access to the local network settings) I am trying to connect the ATEM Mini directly to a second laptop via the ethernet cable. The ATEM Mini appears in the list of network devices but once selected it shows as No Device Connected. I have also tried assigning a manual IP address (not DHCP) and this doesn't work either. I have tried this on both Windows 11 laptop and a Macbook Pro M4 and it doesn't work on either. It's the same issue. I have tried various 'fixes' to this issue from the Forum, which seems to be a common issue. Most of these posts date back to 2020, so I thought I'd try a new thread. Is there a reliable fix for it yet?

Separately, I have noticed the ATEM Mini will not connect via the USB-C port if it is plugged in to a USBC hub. It also won't connect using a USBC to USBA cable direct from ATEM Mini to Laptop. USBC on ATEM to USBC on laptop works fine. Is this a known issue or is it a hardware limitation? I have contacted support with this issue but I don't hold out much hope given other Forum members experiences.

Thanks for your help.

Are you certain that your settings are correct. I think the problem most people have is that when manually setting an IP on their computer they type the same IP as what the atem is set to because that's the number they see. But what you have to do is make sure that number is different on your computer.

The ATEM by default has the Default IP of 192.168.10.240

So on your computer you want to manually set your IP to 192.168.10.XX (XX can be any number 254 or lower). I would set it to something like 60: 192.168.10.60

Make sure all of the other settings are the same as what the atem mini is which are as follows:
ATEM Mini IP Settings
Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0
Gateway - 192.168.10.1

For primary DNS and Secondary DNS you can just enter 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1

Lastly, make sure you turn off wifi on your computer or it may get confused.

Launch the software and then realize you might have to wait 5-7 seconds for it to connect properly.

You beat me to it. We do exactly that. We use a Netgear gigabit & 4G router with 4 wired outs, so have no need to touch or config into a venue's network. We also run a Windows 10 laptop with just Blackmagic control software, stripped of bloatware and gaming rubbish. Never had problem in 8 years of ATEM use.
