Adding Videoclips to Live News

PostThu Mar 13, 2025 2:17 pm

What is best for adding video clips to live news?
I use the ATEM Televeision Studio HD8 for my middle school news.

I am very new and have been teaching myself.

I want to add Video clips of sports and the school play to the top left corner of the live news as a PIP.

I currently use one media source for the greenscreen background and the other media source for the intro and outro picture.

I have read and posted and have found 2 options- raspberry pi, or hyperdeck. The thought is that money isn't the issue.

Ease of use for myself and 12 year old students.

What is the best option to use, a hyperdeck or raspberry pi?

If money isn't a roadblock, you could look at some professional software as well like Playback Pro from DTvideolabs or ProPresenter from Renewed Vision.

The Hyperdeck is also a good choice, but you will have to be particular about the type of files that you put on it (they need to be the correct format and framerate).

Welcome to live production and I hope everything goes well for you!

..
Just an idea   :

Maybe, you can use other computer to play clips with VLC Media player, using a Blackmagic output card,
Or an converter HDMI to SDI run VLC in Full Screen mode as well.
In fact, you can operate/control remote VLC using Companion

I hope help

you can use playoutbee on a Pi 4, and use it the same way you can use a hyper-deck
very cute Lapp, very simple to use, and very fun to setup

Go Hyperdeck. You can use an ipad and Keynote to fire thru a playlist but that’s not going to teach kids anything about broadcast. Codecs, machine control, network, alpha, playlists, timecode, sync, there’s lot of teachable stuff in there. Additionally, the simple integration between Hyperdeck and Atem means that complex sequences can be easily triggered thru a macro (1 button).

Good Luck
