I’ve found that from time to time, ATEM switchers (of all types) simply refuse to work with certain HDMI cables. As someone who’s been using this series for many years (since the original Television Studio), I’ve learned not to argue with them. Just give them the best cables you can, and they won’t give you problems.
Every “optical” HDMI cable I’ve used (even the thin ones that aren’t truly optical) worked flawlessly – even at lengths of 100 meters - But they’re fragile and tend to fail quickly, so I don’t recommend them for long-term use.
Any attempt to cut corners – using a cheap cable, inserting a converter, or chaining female-to-female adapters – eventually caused issues.
Yes, signal boosting via a Decimator can work, and Blackmagic’s own converters might help too, but honestly, the best approach is one high-quality cable, end-to-end.
Fewer worries, fewer headaches – and everything just works.
