Camera 9.4 BETA vs 9.5 Release?

PostMon Apr 14, 2025 1:45 pm

Hello,

Does anyone know:

1. If Camera 9.5 includes the updates for Studio Cameras noted in the 9.4 Beta release? They were released so close together, I am wondering if they are inclusive.

2. Has anyone tried 9.4 Beta with Studio Camera 6k and Studio Converters with ethernet connection? Wondering if all is stable with the change to 2110?

3. If we try the Beta 9.4 and have issues can we revert?

Thanks for the help!

No the 9.5 update only has the update for the Cinema Camera in it and the software version for the Studio Cameras will have been reverted to their previous 8.2 release in 9.5.

If you want to try to 2110 beta for the Studio Camera Pros and the Studio Converter then you will need to use Cameras 9.4 to update them.

Yes you can downgrade the camera software easily if you decide you are not happy with the beta after testing it, you could use either Camera 9.3.1 or 9.5 to downgrade them to the latest full (non beta) release.

Thank you Tim.

So, we have tested 9.4 with the 2110, and the performance is very poor with regards to cable length.
We have seven Studio 6k Pro cameras running over shielded CAT6A at 328 feet with no issues whatsoever. As soon as we tested 9.4 none of those cameras would deliver video to the studio converter!

Its not going to be practical to change out our large infrastructure if 2110 won't support the cable length like TICO does, so I am begging BMD to either improve the 2110 support for long cable lengths, OR if that is not possible or practical, give the customer a choice of 2110 or TICO in the menu.

Which leads me to my next point... it appears that Beta 9.4 also has some lens support improvements. We have a Canon 50-1000mm that we have some issues with an reported it via ticket. I don't know if those fixes are what's being referenced here, but if they are, I would love to get the lens fixes to test without being required to switch to 2110.

Again, I think we are at crossroads here, as I know 2110 is the future path, but, we cannot "break" working systems, or "alienate" those customers who rely on the working TICO implementation. In other words, if BMD only follows the 2210 path in the future, and the cable lengh issue is not fixed, then we could be locked our of future updates, unless there can be a choice in the menu for 2110 vs TICO.

Curious to hear your thoughts on this, thank you Tim!

Hello everyone, in my case it has worked very well with the 2110, my studio 4k pro cameras and Blackmagic 2110 IP Mini BiDirect 12G connected to the studio converter with CAT7 cable at 90 meters and great, with TICO I had some gray interferences like some drops at some moments and from time to time, now without any problem, everything transparent, and everything turned on for more than 10 hours.

Okay a couple of questions...

If you are not getting video at the Studio Converter can you confirm that you have updated it to 9.4 as well? They both need to be updated for SMPTE 2110 to work as otherwise there is a mismatch in what the endcoder and decoder are expecting at the other end.

For your long cable runs have you tried turning 'Ethernet Power' off from the Studio Converter and powering the camera locally? This will result in a much longer possible cable run.

Regarding the lens support it is improvements to do with smoother iris control on Micro Four Thirds lenses and is unlikely to have any effect on the Canon 50-1000mm although it is worth a try.
