What do you want to see from BMD in 2025?

PostFri Jan 10, 2025 8:27 am

Personally I want to see SRT streaming from the Blackmagic Cam app to a Streaming Bridge with remote camera control/record.

Also hoping for a new Hyperdeck Extreme 4k G2 which includes 4x 3g SDI input so that it could operate similar to the Extreme 8k and record four 3g ISOs.

Better hands-on communications from BMD support on issues across the board. I wish they would stand-up for their products and software to give end users more confidance that they have made the right choice in purchasing BMD gear.

Ditto. Fewer new features/models. More attention to polishing what they have and making a solid base for going forward.

A new Dual View monitor that will handle 12G-SDI inputs. I mean we still have old Dual View monitors with 3G and 6G ( SmartScope) But while the other monitors they have, have evolved over time to 4K. And the Smartview 17 now already had there 4rd revision with 12G, Fiber and 2110..
The old dualview still is the same design from 2016 with the 14 dollar Ali express screens in it that have 480 tv lines... :( :(

Audio routing in the Atem Constellations controllable from the Atem software instead of fin-nicking with a XML file and prey you dont disturb anything else..
Something like an Audio Routing tab where you have a X-Y routing for each output and each input and just click the linking you want.

6K, 8K, 12K, 17K.. They have a LOT of K's in there arsenal.. But While there is a *k Atem, 8K Recorder, 8K Decklink, and 8K Converters They have no Camera being able to push out 8K on SDI or Fiber... 4K Seems to be the limit..

BMD Replay is nice. Ursa Broadcast G2 can do 150fps capture in HD. Why not make it possible to run HFR ( High Frame Rate ) mode running 4 HD frames into a single 4K Frame. Then on the ingest let or a decklink 8K or a recorder with HFR mode.. And Replay being able to run Slomo.. That would open up the the Broadcast G2 with Slomo for all kind of sport events running Slomo Replay on a budget.

Stop developing 2110 **** until BMD has a proper line of network switches that can handle it.. But currently everybody seems to jump onto the 2110 boat.. But 90% of those people dont understand you can not run 2110 on a normal network or even on a simple 10G network switch..
IP based protocols is such a different beast as SDI. Debugging IP issues is another ball game.. With SDI you plug the source out, put it in your SDI monitor and you know if your source is good or not..
Dont get me wrong! 2110 can be great.. But the tools and proper switches need to catch up fast.. And proper white papers on how to build a 2110 network, what needs to be considerd, the do's and don't etc.. Else there is no point on pushing technology that 90% of the simple users dont understand, With a LOT of BMD Support hours going into 2110 debugging what is wrong in there network....

All of what Xtreemtec said as well as;

Web Presenter HD/4k: Would love to see some updates to this to hanlde more protocols like HLS. Would love the ability to stream to more then one destination. Ability to stream 16 channels of audio if the protocol allows it.

HFR Capture: I love BMD devices and use them mostly for esports broadcast. A lot of the games my crew and others work with are outputting 120. While I know I could just use other cards, all of them are consumer based cards and all seem problematic.

Wireless Shading: in 2024 I think I did a TON of work where I needed to have cameras on wireless which means shading is not a thing we can do. Would LOVE to see BMD come up with a solution.

We use the BroadcastGear WRCU for wireless shading. Feel free to contact me in DM if you’d like to know more. Works like a charm!

If they made a seperate videohub protocol instance for the audio routing you could easily route it from an external program. Have one videohub protocol instance for the video, and one for the audio.

On that note, I hope they expand their videohub protocol options for the ATEM series, so we can route more internal things (multiviewer pips, keyers etc) with the protocol from an external controller or videohub rail.

dual view monitor...
if you exhume the dinosaurs, there is also the teranex AV ;) A new, low latency product that includes real-time color correction and conversion would be great (may be based on davinci workflow)

Audio routing...
Roman Pytkin Pekarek made a usefull tool with his generator. I use the Dante controller and a similar graphic menu would be intuitive.

Camera arsenal...
I've already lamented the lack of a competitor for 8K camera, especially when BMD sell the rest of the workflow !

IP2110...
May be some new jobs for integrators  !
A new technology involves a learning curve. Having the tools available makes it easier to get started. This is also the intermediate step to mix technologies while waiting for an IP2110 constellation!
All your warnings are justified.

Web Presenter
A complete implementation of SRT and Rist would make this product more universal.

With the Broadcast G2 we're using the Hollyland Cosmo C1 and BroadcastGear WRCU for concerts. I would love to see some kind of native wireless video with low latency, and especially wireless shading and tally. And while I'm dreaming, the G3 could also be lighter, and get electronic ND. The Camera Control Panel already has the ND controls. Another

Some kind of update to the Camera Fiber Converter that enables push to talk on a B4 lens would also be very much appreciated.

I also think it is time for an update to the Ursa EVF. Things like a customisable box like on the normal Viewfinder, for the weird aspect ratios we meet on festivals.

Lastly! LUT on the SDI output on the Micro Studio Camera 4K G2

The implementation of, and hiring developers for, a proper and open bug-fix and software development process. I want to report bugs, I want to see progress of them. I want to request software features and see them implemented. Almost every shortcoming I come up against on BMD products is fixable in software.

Electronic ND filters on the URSA Broadcast G3
Proper Ethernet connectivity on the URSA Broadcast G3 (and via the SMPTE back)
Better sensor cropping, the B4 isn't quite perfect and can lead to vignetting
A proper EVF with flip out eyepiece, like the Sony series
Ethernet control/API in the URSA line that's accessible via the Ethernet port in the CCUs
Two-way communication between camera and CCU
Fiber level (dB) readouts on the CCUs
Fix various little bugs
More information/readouts on the ATEMs such as signal fomat, lock, syncroniser status, MADI status, etc
Proper control of the MADI interface

Some multi-channel glue options in the Teranex AV range. e.g. a Teranex/Hyperdeck Mini 3rd of a rack size unit that can do 4 channels of HD-SDI DA or several HDMI to SDI bi-di conversions, etc.

4k Version of updowncross.

Hesitate buying 8K Hyperdeck to do 4 iso when it came out that many years ago.

Actually ship the BMD Playback unit? NAB is next month lol.

Well the 2110 switcher is inevitable, if not this year, then next. Without an IP switcher there is just not much value add for IP migration. I suspect the Studio cams have been expanded recently to support 2110 in advance of the release.

Good Luck

Two things:
For the ATEM switchers, I'd like to see an option to select audio on the AUX channels to be either a simple pass-through of the source audio, or Program audio as is the present default.

On the Hyperdeck Mini, I'd like to see the ability to run duplicate recordings on slots 1 & 2. That way I'd have a working copy and a backup copy without having to tie up two recorders. (good if one of the cards develops a problem.)

For ATEM Switchers (4K 1 M/E and 2 M/E Production Studio in my case):
1) NDI compatibility.
2) Ability to mute an Input's audio from the Program Output(s), but still be available on the Aux output (i.e. separate mutes for Program and each Aux available.

Case in point for #2:
-I need to bring in an outside video camera feed of a Ground-Breaking Ceremony to be shown on the main auditorium screen.
-The video feed will have microphone audio embedded at the camera via a Sennheiser ENG Pack receiver.
-A Hollyland Mars 300 Pro wireless set will be used to feed HDMI video + microphone audio to the 1 M/E's Input 1.
-ATEM Input 1 will be routed as the source to Aux 1.
-Aux 1 is always hard-routed to the Presentation Computer for any "Live Video" main display needs.
-I need the microphone audio to ONLY be present on Aux 1 to the Presentation Computer, as the Presentation Computer's audio is routed to the Main Audio Mixer, which feeds the ATEM via the XRL inputs.
-I need the microphone audio to NOT be present on the Main Program Output, as this will double up on the microphone audio level and, at best, cause a delay echo, or at worst, cause a feedback loop.

As it is, I'm going to need to get an HW HDMI de-embedder to pull the audio from the Hollyland Receiver out of the HDMI cable and route it to the Main Audio Mixer (keeping it muted in the ATEM). This may require time delaying to keep the audio/video in sync).

It has been said here before, but a 12G SDI version of the Smartscope Duo 4K would be an awesome upgrade to the 4K broadcast system we have. Its weird to me that the product is named 4K but it doesn't work with 4K/50p... Now we have to use down converters to be able to utilize them in our system.

Also I would love to finally have the push to talk button in our Ursa G2 broadcasts. That would make our life so much easier

I would like to see the following:
~ separate tally on each ME on the Constellations
~ 4k dual monitor as others have mentioned (in Black) with hdmi/sdi/2110
~ the Micro Camera Controller with an ethernet connection
~ 2110 recorder
~ the 2110 IP switch 10g ports should all be poe++
~ updated multiview devices, all with 2160, 60p capability on the output, maybe add 2110 for fun. or better yet, add multiview built-in on the videohubs
~ calibration controls for the Smartview monitor

But the most important thing is to release your products on time!

I already asked smartscope with 12G input in 2022 so I will not repeat

There are a lot of new advertised products so just want to see them

Add updates for past products. For exemple Teranex Mini SDI to HDMI 8K is sold with calibration as sales pitch but all third party calibration probes are no longer marketed :(

My list is very simple.

1) New firmware for the Pocket 4k and the UMP 4.6K G2.

2) Better Decklink support in Premiere, for when we gotta work there.

3) At least a "slightly" more user configurable UI.

That's all, and I'll be dancing in mid-air.

It would be super cool if the 10g ethernet ports on the ATEM Television Studio 4K8 could be inputs for the studio cameras!
