Micro Studio 4K G2 SDI - NO LUT DISPLAY?

PostMon Feb 05, 2024 5:19 pm

How does this camera not have the ability to display a LUT over SDI? Will this be a firmware update in the hopefully near future? I was hoping for a clean workflow into my HD8 ISO for livestreaming and now it seems like the only solution is applying a LUT through the external SDI to HDMI 6G converter :?

I picked two of them up today and that broke our workflow as well. Please add LUT to sdi, or even just a global lut to every output.

The SDI out follows the dynamic range selected in the Record tab, film, video, extended video. It would be nice to see 709, HLG, and PQ added to the list.

Good Luck

Wait.... So basically the LUT option only exists for recording? That is very disappointing.

Please allow LUT over SDI on the BMMSC4KG2! Having Rec.709 and Rec.2020 HLG (and PQ for some) over SDI are a must. I actually bought this camera for a live production in the first week of June 2024 and now I may have to use HDMI and convert it just to get a usable image.

Please, please, please make this happen!

Usable image? The cam outputs film, extended video, or video (709ish) over SDI. Surely not as flexible as a lut but unusable is a far cry from reality.

I second, that LUT should be able to be applied to the SDI output.

You can apply it to the HDMI output. Why not the SDI output ??

Following up on this, as I turned this with Blackmagic Support.

You can set the recording to "Extended Video" in the Micro Studio 4k G2. That results in the same outcome for SDI as enabling the LUT in HDMI, so is usable for the live environment.

Because the footage has been recorded in BRAW, you can then revert the footage back to the flat "Film" profile in Davinci Resolve in post.

Select the clip, go to "Color", click on the camera icon to get to the Camera RAW tab,
- "Decode Quality" -> "Use project setting"
- "Decode using" -> "Clip"
- "Color Science" -> "Gen 5"
- "White balance" -> "As shot"
- "Color Space" -> "Blackmagic Design"
- "Gamma" -> "Blackmagic Design Film"

And voila, you're back at the flat color profile, from which you can grade to your liking.

Obviously, none of the uploaded or LUTs, that are available on the HDMI output can be applied to the SDI output. Only the BMD native color spaces.

Yes for sure, making the Micro Studio identical to other Blackmagic cameras would be a killer feature ( LUT, False Color, Status View, Zebras etc on SDI Output too that can be remotely toggled)

We were a bit disappointed they did not make this camera like the others in this respect :)

Do you mean Extended Video will allow luts to be applied over SDI, or just that it will have a more usable profile for live than film?

No, enabling video, or extended video is the same as applying those LUTs in the LUT menu.
But I agree it’s a poor show not to be able to upload LUTs.

Any news about adding that feature to the MicroStudio 4K G2? SDI lut is sadly also a "must have" in our case (as its in use as a studio POV camera which gets directly streamed out together with other sources - No option to add a LUT somewhere in the actual workflow).

Its really weird that you can select it for HDMI but not for the SDI output.
Even if it would get recorded to an external SSD -> Please put it in at least as an option ...

+1 to this

Can't upload LUTs to the G2, Can't apply LUTs at the SDI Extreme ISO.... We'd have to get a bunch of BMD converter boxes just to make it happen...
