12G and 6G on ATEM 4 M/E Broadcast Studio 4K

PostWed Dec 01, 2021 4:02 am

Hi there,

Does the ATEM 4 M/E Broadcast Studio 4K support using a 12G video source on one input and an 6G audio source on another input at the same time?

If so, will there be any audio/video synchronization issues because of the different SDI data rates of the two standards?

Thank you,
Cyprian

All of the video inputs to the ATEM 4 M/E Broadcast Studio must be at the same resolution and frame rate (and they must match the video standard that the switcher is set to use).

In the current lineup of 4K-capable Blackmagic switchers, only the ATEM Television Studio 4K and the ATEM Constellation 8K have video standards converters on all of the inputs. On those switchers you can mix input sources of video frame rates and resolutions and they will all be converted to the target video standard that the switcher is set to.

In general the digital audio associated with a video input is at a different sampling rate (usually 48000 kHz) from the video frame rate (often in the 25 Hz to 60 Hz range). So in most cases there aren't typically audio sync issues just from using different video frame rates, as the audio typically needs to be processed separately anyway. There may be latency introduced in the video frames if resolution scaling is required (this often incurs a frame or two delay in the video), but in situations where that is the case, usually the audio gets delayed a similar amount so that it still matches the associated video.
