Wireless Production on ATEM STUDIO 4K Switcher and Camera

PostFri May 27, 2022 2:41 pm

We are setup with a ATEM Television Studio Pro 4K Live Production Switcher and 3 Studio Cameras 4K. Because our venues change from location to location, we do not have the luxury of running wires. We use the 3rd party SDI WIRELESS transmitters for out video capture. But these wireless devices only transmit video and audio.

They are not capable of wirelessly transmitting CCU data from the switcher to the camera. This leaves us with the inconvenience of have make camera adjustments at the camera itself.

We are in need of a device that can convert the SDI output from the switcher to a wireless signal (Bluetooth or WIFI), receive that signal at the camera, then convert it back to SDI at the camera to provide the CCU signal to the SDI input of the camera.

Is this too much to ask? BMD has created so many mini-converters, yet they do not seem to understand the need for this ability. Somebody please come up with an SDI to wireless to wireless to SDI device to provide CCU signals to the camera.

I've been wanting something similar as well.

I know this isn't what you have but the Broadcast G2s do have the ability to use the ATEM Streaming Bridge to achieve CCU over WiFi (note that it does require some cheap third party hardware). Unless BMD were to add this to the Studio lineup though it wouldn't be of much help to you.

There are some third party options available as well (that aren't cheap):

The Wrcu is a perfect solution for this.

It will ingest SDI from the Atem, Translate it to BG_CCU protocol. Send it wireless to the receiver and the receiver will translate it back to SDI control data for the BMD cameras.

Price is 2100 euro's.
Realtime wireless CCU and Tally. Range over 150m (500 Feet ) But in high power mode it might even go further depending on conditions.

And will do Broadcast cameras from Sony, JVC and Panasonic Wireless CCU soon too.
