HDMI Cable Lengths?

PostSat Jun 25, 2022 8:29 pm

Is there a max HDMI cable length that one can push video and audio through from Cameras to the ATEM Extreme ISO?

I am looking at 8K capable cables.

Thanks Tim

Yea, I have the same question, wanting to add the new BMD Studio 4K Plus to our system with ATEM Mini Pro Extreme Iso, but want to ensure I will be able to utilize the two way communications feature to control the camera from the switcher.

Maximum HDMI cable length is highly dependent on the signal format and type of cable used, but you can go pretty far (up to 100m or so) using HDMI fiber optic cables. See this earlier thread for a more thorough discussion:

Note that the ATEM Mini series does not support formats larger than HD (1920x1080).

For standard cables, 3 m (10 ft) is on the safe side. If the source has good line drivers (like a PC), up to 10 m do work reliably on high quality (and bulky) cables. Above that, HDMI fiber cables are the safe bet, but (cheaper) active copper cables ("RedMere") do work, too.

I settled on Fiber Optic HDMI cables for the runs, and standard cables out to the multiview and program monitor.

In a short while, I will buy at least one Hollyland Set and perhaps two.

I did a test with three 100 meters fibercables connected together by the Blackmagic Micro Bidirectional converters: works perfect but because of the converters you loose camera control. But 100 meters glassfiber works perfect, I do it lots of times. I bought this ones at Amazon: https://www.amazon.nl/LinkinPerk-HDMI-kabel-snelheid-ondersteuning-PS3-projector/dp/B07ML5WVWL/ref=asc_df_B07MDYYKYL/?tag=nlshogostdsp-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=430541006136&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2447827928471900186&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1010351&hvtargid=pla-657857764276&psc=1&th=1
