Use ethernet for atem software control

PostFri Mar 24, 2023 12:55 pm

Can't find the answer in a search. I'm playing around with a mini pro iso. I'm trying to use the ethernet to connect to a macbook to run atem software control. USB-c will be used for a webcam feed. I'm strugling to get this done. But is it even possible without using a router?

Yes, it's absolutely possible. You need both devices to be assigned to the same network IP address range and then they should see each other. Remember you can use the USB for control and webcam at the same time though if you're doing both from the same computer.

Peter,

On some devices a 'crossover cable' is required to connect two ethernet devices without a switch. 20 years ago that was the standard but nowadays I think many devices can automatically switch the receive and transmit signals if you don't use a crossover cable. This is a possible but perhaps unlikely cause of your problem.

I think I had to connect both a network cable and a USB cable when I was running the ATEM setup. The setup program didn't recognize the ATEM with an ethernet-only connection even going through the switch. Once setup was completed the USB cable wasn't required for ATEM Control Software.

...if my memory serves me right.

Find out the ip address for your switcher (in this example): 192.168.10.240
Plug a regular ethernet cable from your switcher to you computer.
Change the wired ip address of your computer to (in this example): 192.168.10.241

Notes: You may have to switch from dhcp to static ip on your computer.
If the change wont save without a router, just input a fake on (in this example): 192.168.10.1

To recap:
Switcher
192.168.10.240
255.255.255.0
192.168.10.1

Computer
192.168.10.241
255.255.255.0
192.168.10.1
8.8.8.8

The USB connection can be used as both a video feed and software control simultaneously.

I do this frequently.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.
