HD8 ISO Audio from UpDownCross convertor to Audio desk

Good day all.

I have a stage input that goes from HDMI in to support laptops on the stage (an UpDownCross convertor) to SDI this then returns to the FOH and goes directly into the HD8 ISO, how do I get audio from this channel to my mixing desk?

Do I just enable the audio on that channel and then the Input on my desk from the HD8 ISO?

I have mixed audio coming from my mixer to the XLR inputs of the HD8, there are control room and studio outputs, Can I use either of them as a return to my audio desk so that I am able to get sound into my main hall?

Conformation on this would be appreciated.

These are not the same platform so it would be nice if you could explain this with regards to my platform please, I have neither of the two platforms you have. Sorry for any inconvenience. I am located in Africa so can not just "run out to the store and pick something up". The HD8 has all SDI inputs, the audio will already be present on the system so should not need to be remixed back into the program audio for online viewing as it should already be present, I need to get this single audio stream into my main hall audio, which, will then not be sent back to the HD8 from my mixer.

Hello Charles. I'll offer a couple possibilities. The most elegant way is to de-embed the audio from the SDI prior to the input to the HD8. That will give you the most reliable method to extract your stage audio for your mixer. There are a couple of SDI to Audio converters in our product range. The Mini Converter SDI to Audio would work.

As you suggest with the HD8 you could "Solo" a single audio channel out the monitor speakers. When in Solo, the headphones, and both monitor outputs would have the selected audio so if you are using headphones or monitor for something else, this would not be ideal. To solo an input, the PGM Mix button must be enabled along with the Monitor or Studio or Cans button to hear it. Make sure you don't enable Talk in the headset microphone or that will be added. If you carefully test and set this up and don't push any buttons by mistake, this would work. I still recommend the separate converter as Solo is generally use for temporary tests and not fixed feeds. I hope this helps.

Yes, the HD8 even has 8 SDI outputs for return feeds that all support mix minus. So you can use e.g. SDI input 8 to feed audio from your mixer into the ATEM and SDI output 8 to get audio from the ATEM back to the mixer. Just enable the mix minus for SDI output 8 or else you will create a feedback loop.
