Additional hardware for ATEM Mini

PostWed Sep 27, 2023 6:49 pm

I'm trying to take the ATEM Mini to "the next level" and still making it a one person job.

How can we add motion graphics like lower thirds, stinger transitions, etc with relative ease?

Would something like the HiperDeck Shuttle HD be needed?

Could Elgato Stream Deck be able to control HiperDeck?

Any insights would be appreciated.

Deppends from your need .. Do U need animated lower thirds ? then something like hyperdeck is good .. Bud better is Hyperdeck Studio HD plus with 2 outputs (FILL + KEY) .. but it need 2 inputs of atem .. So u get only 2 inputs for cameras ..
Do U need stills ? U can load it to ATEM and use Stream Deck to control it .. Stream Deck can control Hyperdecks too ..

Doug Johnson has a video tutorial on how to create a stinger transition using any ATEM switcher and a 1st Gen Hyperdeck Studio Mini on his YouTube channel. You need a Hyperdeck Studio HD Plus nowadays, because the current Studio HD Mini lacks the second SDI output for the key signal.

Thank you both for the information.

It's good to know Stream Deck can control Hyperdecks.

I first thought of the Hyper Deck Shuttle HD to run the graphics and making them transparent (keying them) with the ATEM but having the fill and key would be much better.

Is there a switcher that has this capability built in?

The built-in media pool and players on all of the ATEM models can do this for still images. Most models only hold the still images while powered on and do not store them between power cycles - some of them will hold the images across power cycles. Some of the higher-end models can play video from the built-in media players, but the Mini models do not have either of these capabilities (storing between power cycles or playing video).

All of the ATEM models can accept separate fill/key signals from two separate video inputs, as from the hyperdeck or ultrastudio products that have dual SDI outputs for the purpose. Obviously this means that two inputs on the ATEM would be tied up for that one source.

One more, hopefully last, question.

Thinking about the HyperDeck Shuttle HD, I'd need to play the transition (keying it with in the ATEM DSK) and when the graphic is covering the full screen (say at 15 frames) my cameras should switch.

Is there a way to have an ATEM Macro control/play the media from the HyperDeck so I can tell it to switch cameras at precisely 15 frames after the transition initiated?

Hi,

maybe it help you if you want use HyperDeck for stinger transistion. Here is my macro (with HyperDeck connected to input 4):
Code: Select all
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<Profile majorVersion="2" minorVersion="1" product="ATEM Mini Pro ISO">
    <MacroPool>
        <Macro index="0" name="Stinger" description="Uses Camera 4 with HyperDeck as Player">
            <Op id="KeyType" mixEffectBlockIndex="0" keyIndex="0" type="Chroma"/>
            <Op id="KeyFillInput" mixEffectBlockIndex="0" keyIndex="0" input="Camera4"/>
            <Op id="AdvancedChromaKeySamplingModeEnabled" mixEffectBlockIndex="0" keyIndex="0" enabled="True"/>
            <Op id="AdvancedChromaKeyCursorXPosition" mixEffectBlockIndex="0" keyIndex="0" xPosition="-11.776"/>
            <Op id="AdvancedChromaKeyCursorYPosition" mixEffectBlockIndex="0" keyIndex="0" yPosition="5.786"/>
            <Op id="KeyOnAir" mixEffectBlockIndex="0" keyIndex="0" onAir="True"/>
            <Op id="HyperDeckSetSingleClip" hyperDeckIndex="0" singleClipEnabled="True"/>
            <Op id="HyperDeckSetSpeed" hyperDeckIndex="0" speedPercent="1"/>
            <Op id="HyperDeckPlay" hyperDeckIndex="0"/>
            <Op id="MacroSleep" frames="120"/>
            <Op id="CutTransition" mixEffectBlockIndex="0"/>
            <Op id="MacroSleep" frames="60"/>
            <Op id="KeyOnAir" mixEffectBlockIndex="0" keyIndex="0" onAir="False"/>
        </Macro>
    </MacroPool>
    <MacroControl loop="False"/>
</Profile>

I use keying, so you need to set the keying before the stinger transition is ready. Also, you have to adjust the length of the stinger transition and the timing for the cut, where the stinger occupies the entire screen.

Maybe it gives you some ideas for animated graphic.

Best regards,
Floh
