Run ATEM macros from external keyboard/controller

PostWed Dec 04, 2019 8:36 am

Hello,

I'm using few macros on my ATEM switcher during production. However, I often need to use other pages of the ATEM Software Control, or other software, so I need to find simple solution to run those macros from external device like computer keyboard, MIDI controller or something else. Any ideas ?
Thanks!

Bitfocus Companion with a Streamdeck panel is 1 of the most easiest triggers to run macro's and other functions :)

Thumbs up for the Streamdeck and the Companion software. Not much documentation on the Companion software. I do know it can run macros as I used it to run macros. I am now currently using the Streamdeck/Companion combination to switch the three AUX outputs on the switcher whose outputs are being sent to five confidence monitors. The person that controls the graphics can now do the switching using a single button without having access to the switcher or ATEM software running on a computer.

That's cool, thanks!
Friend of mine bought Streamdeck for his gear and it is great with vMix. He is now planning to buy ATEM switcher, so we might play together a little and do some tests.

Just to confirm: the Streamdeck would allow me to push one button and activate a flying key? So for example, I can take input 1 (which has a chromakey) and go from full screen to shrunk and placed in the lower right corner?

I just want to make sure I'm buying something that fits my needs and I'm not positive this is what y'all are discussing.

THANKS!

If you can program it then the Streamdeck can trigger it. Likely the AMP you're using lacks the horsepower to pull off the effect. I think the minimum would be 2 DVEs, one for the cam, and one for the key. Companion doesn't add functionality in the sense of layers or effects, rather ease of operation.

Good Luck

For anyone following this thread, I got a StreamDeck and am using Companion to run macros. Since this switch, my whole system has become majorly unstable. The screen blacked out on me yesterday at the end of a paid live stream, I've had occasions where I could not get audio to work until I had restarted the whole system three times, the StreamDeck works when it wants to work and I have had audio issues.

I'm still trying to chase down the source of the issues (it may not be related to StreamDeck/Companion) but I can confirm that Companion often has a hard time connecting to my ATEM and, even when it does, it frequently just stops working in the in the middle of a stream. Stability is everything to me so the StreamDeck is not a positive in my book.

It would be super nice is there were a way to run macros with keyboard shortcuts instead of hunting down a virtual button in the middle of a stream.

Again, I can't say for sure what the issue is at the moment, but if you're considering making this change, consider me a -1 vote.

The latest version of Atem Firmware has some big issues with the release + latest Beta fw of Companion..

Check the Companion group on Facebook.. You need a certain Companion build to get a stable working Atem if you use FW 8.x ;)
