Atem 3.3 update- issues - captured file overwriting previous

PostMon Sep 17, 2012 4:48 am

Atem 3.3 update- after testing and excited for the the new audio mixer, i felt confident in using it on a production this weekend. Low and behold, i found out the capture process wasn't writing sequential files, but over wrote each file. Needless to say, we screwed the pooch trusting the update.

It has worked on all previous, what the hell bmd? Anyone else seeing this issue?

Did you record using the switcher program?
Otherwise, media express?

Hello,

I did just a quick test on my ATEM Television Studio (as my ATEM's are racked and getting a laptop to the TVS was quicker  ) and using my MacBook it increments properly every single time. I tried moving destinations, changing bit rates, and even naming the file with spaces.

Can everyone who's having an issue tell me which ATEM switcher is being used, what OS they are running, the version of ATEM drivers (I am assuming 3.3), frame rate/resolution, and H.264 settings on their capture so we can set up tests to reproduce this error?

Thanks!

Running 3.2 on a tvs using the capture function in MEDIA EXPRESS 1080i59.94 I did NOT have any problem with the files incrementing, it worked correctly. I ran the Control panel, and Media express all on the same quad core Intel win7 notebook, capturing to internal hard drive with the OS on a SSD drive.
I did see a situation once before where it did not seem to stop capturing correctly because I tried to restart capturing quickly, and when I restarted capturing it would have restarted with the same file name. It takes quite a bit of time with a larger capture for the software to correctly finish the capture. It is not a case where you can simply hit stop and them hit restart. in This case IMO you would probably overwrite the file. The key is when the file shows up in the Media Express list of files, ONLY then is it DONE.

Kaspar
quick think to try in your tests. capture for say 30-40 minutes, then stop and immediately try to start capture again, and see if the file name is incremented. In my case it was not UNTIL I waited for the file to appear on the list

Ah excellent, I'll give that shot. My captures were much shorter than that. Thanks!

So for the users that are still having problems with this, the simple way is to delete the GUI's preferences, so the user can start from clean. This isn't too painful since there are hardly any settings, because the Switcher keeps the rest of the setup.

On Mac:

Delete these files
(user's home folder)/Library/Preferences/com.blackmagic-design.ATEM Software Control.plist
(user's home folder)/Library/Preferences/com.blackmagic-design.ATEM Software Control.plist.lockfile

On Windows:

Use regedit.exe to delete this and its contents from the Windows Registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Blackmagic Design/ATEM Software Control

I hope this helps.

Can I request a feature to be added some point - setting an automatic file break based on a time or file size. Surely this would fix the problem - or at the very least mean you only loose a section of a record. Most professional HDD recorders support this feature.

Hope that finds the problem, it looks like Media express does a bit of cleanup after stopping

This did the trick.

Although, I didnt see the lockfile mentioned, I did have a com.blackmagic-design.switchers.softwarecontrol.plist in my library directory which I trashed, possibly from another version?

Hello I have an ATEM 1 connected to a Samsung model RF511 notebook (Intel Core i7 - 2670QM 2.20GHz Memory 8GB Ram Windows 64-bit operating system, NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M), upgraded the the Atem switcher from 2.7 to version 3.3, it giving to me the option to control audio and capture, the capture she does not found the board or by atem media express, went to device manager and sound drivers, video and game. And the drive is not installed correctly, I tried to update it automatically finds the software but not updated. I'm used to capture the connection Aux 1 usb cable with 3.0 and entering the laptop with usb 3.0.
how do I resolve this problem.

grateful

First.. I recommend you don't post an unrelated question to another topic. It gets very hard to follow updates to the original issue.

And.. to see if I may help. When you did the Firmware update it of course wipes out any setting you had on the ATEM. Did you remember to change the Aux setting to Program Out.

Change the destination file every new time in the capture setting of the ATEM software will do the same
