Live graphics for ATEM TV Studio

PostMon Sep 17, 2012 4:56 pm

Hi,
I'm considering purchasing the ATEM Television Studio for a 2-3 camera live switching production on a weekly basis and need to know more about how graphics are added. If I just want to create some basic lower-third text graphics to be integrated into the broadcast live, what's the simplest, cheapest way of creating those graphics? Thanks!

When less than 20 lower thirs are needed, use ATEM's media pool. Up to 20 graphics can be stored there.
Call them by selecting the graphics in the upstream key section of ATEM's control software. Use graphics with alpha channel, in one of the supported file formats. They can be created with every graphics software, wich support the needed formats. (Photoshop, gimp).

I think, it would be helpfull to control the ATEM with two devices (e.g. one PC and one hardware control or two PCs). So one person can operate the graphics (including live creation) while another person cuts the show. It is also usable, when only one person is available, so the person doesn't need to switch between different folders of the control software.

Also, download the 3.3 SDK. It has a simple demo program to upload targa image files
and to select which media bin to be used for media player 1. I recommend GIMP too.

When saving the TGA file use No RLE and an origin of top left.

Hi,

For graphics we are using the DSK on the ATEM, and feeding it with 'fill' and 'key' on 2 of the inputs from a Mac G5 with a decklink card, running 'Livekey'....all the graphics are done in CS6 and just dropped in.....but we are using a 2M/e with lots of spare inputs!!! ;)

Cheers, Dave
