12G/6G optical sdi compatibility

Hi,

I need to setup a live production system with an Atem 1 M/E and 4 Panasonic AW-UE150 PTZ cameras.
Production decided to wire these with fiber, but I have some concerns.

AW-UE150 documentation refers the fiber output as "12G-SDI", but Atem 1 M/E only takes 6g-SDI. It should be fine, as we'll only do 2160p25, but...
- Does setting the camera in 2160p25 suffice to output 6G-SDI (cameras documentation never mention 6G-SDI)?
- Does the camera signal will be compatible with the Atem switcher?
- What should I chose for transceiver? 6G-SDI? Does it work if I have a 12G transceiver in one side and 6G on the other side?

It's actually the first time I work with optical fiber...

Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes you can use a Mini Converter Optical to SDI 12G for this. Put a 6 or 12G Video SFP in it and it will receive video.

The question is if the UE150 does support 6G at all. I'm not really sure about that.. Only used it in 12G mode. And in 12G it was compatible with the Atem 4ME broadcast 4K we own. ;)

Another way would be to add a Fiber converter at the Camera to do SDI > fiber if the Fiber port does not support 6G.

4K 2160/59.94p, 2160/50p, 2160/29.97p*2, 2160/25p*2, 2160/24p*2, 2160/23.98p*2

It says *2 = Native output.

Since the 12G output and the Fiber output are next to eachother.. ( i'm a 12G fiber hardware developer) they probably send the same signal from the SDI output to the Fiber output as well.

But you have to check the settings inside the UE150 as there might be some settings to the 6G signal in terms of the way it is transmitted. ;)

Maybe I should ask directly to Panasonic then, I'll post here if I have an answer.

That's indeed plan B, that would be a pity though as Fiber has been chosen because of the cameras capability ;)

That's indeed what we can read on the product page:
The signal sent is the same as 12G-SDI OUT.

Unfortunately I will get the cameras a few days before an important event, so I really need to be sure before. But as I said, 6g is never mentioned in the camera's manual, so I'm worried. I was hopping 12G was the max capacity, and it was cross-compatible with 6G as soon as you don't output more than 2160p25.

Thanks again for your answer

"Optionals products" for UE150 on Panasonic website shows two transceiver, a 8G and a 16Gb, so maybe it's actually possible to put a 6G transceiver...
https://pro-av.panasonic.net/en/products/aw-ue150/optional_products.html
... or the 8G is intended for 3G-HDSDI...

Ok I think I found the answer on the product manual:
22.Optical connector <OPTICAL>
This is the connector for the SFP+ optical fiber module. By connecting the optional fiber module, it is possible to output signals converted to optical signals from SDI signals. Select the fiber module that suits the signal band*1 for each format.
*1 • 4K (59.94p, 50p): 12G
• 4K (other than 59.94p, 50p): 6G
• HD (59.94p, 50p): 3G
• HD (other than 59.94p, 50p): 1.5G
<NOTE>
• This unit does not support input by optical signals.

This part only appears on the "manual" and not on the "operating instructions"

Hello,
we are planning to get a set of Panasonic AW-EU150 that we wish to use with BM 6G SFP.
Did you try it? Was it working?
Thanks!

Should not be a problem but only up to 6G or 3840P30 ;)
