Kernel module installed but Mini Recorder not seen (Ubuntu)

PostMon Mar 23, 2020 3:23 am

I'm trying to install/configure my system for OBS but I'm not seeing the device. 'BlackmagicDesktopVideoSetup', for instance, says that there's no devices.

However 'lspci' shows the device

Code: Select all
bgiles@eris:/tarballs/video/Blackmagic_Desktop_Video_Linux_11.5$ sudo lspci
02:00.0 Multimedia video controller: Blackmagic Design DeckLink Mini Recorder 4K

and both 'blackmagic' and 'blackmagic-io' are successfully installed

Code: Select all
bgiles@eris:~$ sudo dkms status -m blackmagic -k `uname -r`
blackmagic, 11.5a34, 5.3.0-42-generic, x86_64: installed

Oddly an 'lsmod | grep black' shows no matches.

This is an Ubuntu 19.10 system running the latest kernel

Code: Select all
bgiles@eris:~$ uname -a
Linux eris 5.3.0-42-generic #34-Ubuntu SMP Fri Feb 28 05:49:40 UTC 2020 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

and version 11.5.

The kernel sees these devices
    bgiles@eris:/dev$ cat /proc/devices
    Character devices:
    1 mem
    4 /dev/vc/0
    4 tty
    4 ttyS

I tried running the app as root (shudder) but same effect. I also checked if a group was added and my user account needs to be added to that account but didn't see any new groups.

If the hardware matters it's a Dell 7050 (iirc) with 64 GB.
