Media Server for 1 and 2 M/E Switchers

PostWed Aug 14, 2013 3:52 pm

Dear Blackmagic Design,

I work at a church that uses your ATEM 1 M/E Production Switcher and I have no complaints. I also work for a local television station that uses a NewTek TriCaster 8000 and it's buggy. So 1 point for you guys.

BUT

The TriCaster has a built in media server due to it being a PC computer and not just a switcher. So 1 point for them.

So I was looking into getting a Mac to run ProPresenter to play videos but then I saw this

ProVideoServer
http://www.renewedvision.com/pvs.php#pvs-details

Serial Communications
For easy control from a video switcher, PVS has several communications protocols included as part of the solution. These include VDCP and AMP and allow the user to trigger clips directly via a switcher from any channel.

Is there any way that we can use PVS?

The ATEM is not capable of controlling 3rd party software in that regard. That type of functionality has been requested a few times by customers and we have logged that feature request to product management.

Renewed Vision works with us so it wouldn't hurt to reach out to them and see what other workflow solutions they offer. Hope this helps.

eharrison there is a solution you could achieve if you dont want to use Wirecast due to cost.

You could build a nice computer with two decklink quads for under 5k usd, and be able to mix up to 8 cameras at the same time in a software like wirecast.

Techically you could input your ATEM as a camera source too if you wanted.

Wirecast is "kind of buggy" too, but the price difference is huge and they do virtually the same.

My recommendation when using wirecast would be to set your scene, and once it's done dont move anything, if you want to insert titles and other stuff live you could use a second computer with xsplit (cheaper), and input that computer as a source into Wirecast through your decklink card.

CasperCG is another solution, i havent tried it but from the start it looks like xsplit + wirecast and 2 computers is "easier" to use, it requires more hardware though.

This is something that softron may be able to help with as well ... since i know they have similar software and are coming out with a new "server" version shortly this integration of third party software in addition to decklink cards would be an amazing feat and a wonderful selling point ... i know at this point its not in BMD's hands but still.

I think both renewed vision's product and softron's products have gpi capabilities so perhaps something could be configured through gpi interfaces??

I think there was a mis-understanding of my post.

I would love it if the ATEM could be connected to ProVideoServer and see it like a DDR. When you take it live it plays. We as ATEM users could have 4 DDRs.

Could you give me a link to what you're talking about? I didn't see anything on their site talking about a server.

so this should be able to be configured through gpi, and gpi tally box i can't find it on the provideo player website but i thought i remember reading about the capability to interface it with gpi commands maybe a phone call ??
