ATEM Mini recognized but showing black screen

PostSat Jul 18, 2020 10:47 pm

Brand new user - Help!
Sony A7R4 connected to ATEM Mini and I see Blackmagic option in Zoom, Skype, OBS, etc, but only get a black screen.

I hooked up the ATEM mini to my tv and I do get an image, so I know it's getting the video feed from the camera.

I'm running Mac OS 10.15.5 Catalina, but get the same result on my wife's laptop running 10.12.6.

Any help on getting up and running would be Greatly appreciated!

First to check a few obvious things:

  • Is there a red border around the big numbered button that corresponds to the number of the HDMI input the camera is connected to? If not, push that button. If it gets a green border instead of a red one, press the CUT button and it should turn red.
  • Is the FTB button (fade to black) enabled? If so, turn that off.
  • Is the KEY turned on? If so, turn that off too.

Hello!

I have noticed an interesting scenario that may be of some assistance. When trying to connect my Atem mini pro as a webcam (for use with zoom, mac mini 2014) the unit was seemingly recognized (as a selectable camera) but did not function in any way (i.e. on OBS it was a selectable device but it appeared as a black square)

After much hair pulling I tried replacing my nice expensive, class compliant USB-C to USB-A (USB 3.0) cable with the cheapest, nastiest USB-C to USB-A (allegedly USB 2) generic cable from the local office supplies store. Hey Presto! It works.

Now I'm not 100% sure how or why it worked but it did. I assume something in the USB handling side of the mac hardware/OS just didn't like seeing a USB 3 type input feed. Anyway... Best of luck and for a couple of dollars this is worth a shot.

I have the same problem, only intermittently. When the image does appear, it freezes for a few seconds frequently. When using with Google Meet, the “Camera starting” message displays for a long time before the image appears, if it ever does. The setup I’m using, including the USB-C to USB-A cable, works well with my Windows laptop. Any more ideas? Thanks.

I had the same issue after leaving the ATEM plugged in for long periods.
Pulling the power cable from the ATEM waiting a few seconds and then re-connecting the power restored the video from black screen to Atem video in Zoom.

Mac OS catalina
Zoom build Version: 5.7.4 (898)

I have the same problem as theo_d_mac.
Is there a real solution available at the moment?
Because plugging the device off and in is somehow... not what I except from a device in this price range.

Best regards

Same Problem here with a Extreme Iso,
it cannot be traced back to a specific USB cable, Windows 10, Zoom 5.86.
Sometimes it works, sometimes not. A second device is completly fine.

I've consistently found the answer to the random black screen in OBS: Revert back to 8.5.1 software and firmware on Atem mini.

Uninstall latest vers, reboot, reinstall 8.5.1, reboot.
Unplug everything from atem.
While holding mic 1 on button plug in the atem power (mic 1 should be blinking).
Then plug in the USB cable.
Go to atem setup and click to get 'update atem'. Continue with firmware update.

Then try your hdmi cams, no more blackscreen in obs.

It's ridiculous they haven't fixed this for the orig atem mini by now.
