Portrait output

Hi guys,

Have been searching for an answer but can't seem to find anything.

New to the ATEM world, have a Constellation 8K in our inventory with the Advanced Panel.

Looking at having 2 portrait outputs to display a camera feed from PTZ's. I can't see any way to flip the output to portrait, but can see a greyed out rotation option under USK's, so thinking I might be able to flip the input instead?

Is this possible?

Thanks!

The ATEM models only support standard broadcast resolutions and aspect ratios for their video input and output ports. For HD video that means a 16:9 landscape aspect ratio.

The DVE keyers do have a rotation option, so you could rotate and scale one of the video inputs into a vertical orientation, if desired. But the ATEM video outputs will still be 16:9 landscape, so you will end up with black bars on either side of the vertically oriented video.

Yet the most important question stands. Why is the rotation option Greyed Out on a Constellation. (While it is not on a 4M/E).

You have to switch on DVE on that USK to make it work.

What do you mean with 'switch on'?
All other parameters are not greyed Out and work instantaneously.
And on a 4M/E I'm doing the exact same thing and it is not Greyed Out AND working properly.

I'm having the same issue with our Constellation 8K.

Even though I select the USK to be DVE, the Rotation is greyed out. Don't understand how the 4M/E is "technically" one step below the Constellation, but the 4M/E is capable of this while the Constellation is not.

Are we missing a step?

Hi,
I'm having the same issue (latest firmware). Did you get it to work?

Thanks

Hello Michael,

Thank you for contacting Blackmagic Support with your query. Unfortunately, the rotation feature is not available on the Constellation 8K, and we cannot be certain if it will be implemented or when.

Does the new Constellation HD support DVE rotation?

Is there a chance that rotation will be added anytime in the future via a firmware update?

And for those that ran into this in the past, how have you solved this? Is there a third party "box" that rotates SDI signals? (although I guess that anything else than increments of 90° will be impossible due to transparency …)

The manual for the ATEM Constellation HD switchers does have a brief mention of DVE rotation on page 112:
https://documents.blackmagicdesign.com/ ... 0783610000

I suppose there's a chance that this text was just copied from the ATEM Production Studio manual (as some of those models do support rotation), so you might want to get confirmation of this from Blackmagic directly just to be sure.

In terms of other alternatives, doing rotation in software on a computer (in ffmpeg, OBS, etc.) is certainly one viable approach as Roman suggests.

Or see this thread for mention of a few hardware video processing devices that can do rotation as well:

BM just confirmed that the new ATEM Constellation HD switchers also do not support DVE rotation.
