Capture VGA to ATEM Mini Pro

I want to capture VGA (being projected) and use the ATEM Mini Pro to switch between that and video from my camera. I've tried a cheap VGA to HDMI converter but the ATEM Mini Pro doesnt show anything. I know it works after a fashion as I can capture it into a PC using a cheap HDMI to USB converter. So Ebay cheapie works, ATEM doesnt. I guess its something to do with the spec of the converter and a better converter may work. Has anyone tried this?

Alternatively I've read comments that suggest putting in a HDMI extender or switch into the link may help, ie VGA -> VGA to HDMI Converter -> extender -> ATEM. The BlackMagic HDMI extender ought to work with the ATEM but would it work with the VGA to HDMI converter? Impossible question I suppose.

I use an ATLONA ATNO-HD500DVI VGA TO HDMI/DVI CONVERTER/SCALER that does an excellent job. Not sure if they are currently being manufactured, but the are readily available on eBay in the $100 range. I use this in my workflow with no problems. Hope that helps.

Thanks Warren, I'll look out for ones of those. I've got a work round putting another PC in the chain but that's very clunky.
