ATEM Mini Pro ISO - DHCP Broken

PostSat Sep 12, 2020 5:38 pm

Hi all,

EDIT: Questions first, then background.

QUESTIONS
1. Is there a "full factory reset" key combo I can use to completely wipe the ISO back to factory/hardware settings? I could only find the key combo to initiate the firmware flash mode.

2. Has anyone gotten the ISO to correctly use DHCP? If so, did you have to do anything special, or do I have a second lemon unit? I suspect I have a bad unit because further research hasn't shown any similar complaints.

Interestingly, once I assign a static IP, I can use the ATEM locally without a USB connection. It won't start streaming, though - "On Air" just sits there blinking.

EDIT 2: I just found this thread as well. I suspect my ISO has the same issue that the PRO did. Sounds like a bad batch at the very least. Hopefully this can be resolved with a firmware update, but if not, it'll be my 2nd ATEM to be sent back.

BACKGROUND
On Friday, I replaced an ATEM Mini Pro with an ISO unit after the Pro's internal fan went bad. While setting it up, I got the message that everything needed to be updated to 8.4, which I did.

Note that all cabling is exactly the same as it was with the PRO. I did remove the DHCP reservation for the PRO in my router, intending to reallocate it to the ISO once it pulled a temp address and showed up in the table.

1. The ISO refuses to connect to the router or request a DHCP assignment, instead immediately giving itself a self-assigned address (169.254.1.0).

2. I can assign a static IP, but the DNS fields remain grayed out and locked to Google DNS servers. This is undesirable, as I run my own DNS.

3. With a static IP, I get bidirectional communication between the ISO and the ATEM software. Also, I get a proper response from pinging the static IP, but the ISO is otherwise not appearing on the network.

Using an "arp -a" command shows everything on my LAN, but the ATEM is missing. Eventually that command will find something at the assigned static address, but it's malformed:

Code: Select all
? (10.1.1.203) at 0:0:0:0:0:0 on en0 ifscope [ethernet]
atem-avc-000000000000.local (169.254.1.0) at 0:0:0:0:0:0 on en0 [ethernet]

4. I reflashed the firmware several times (booting the ATEM while holding down the upper-left "On" button to force it to flash mode. This has had no effect.

5. Despite me using both the uninstall program as well as manually hunting down and deleting all previous save files, preferences, etc., the ISO keeps picking up settings from the PRO's configuration: (e.g., PIP size, location and border, or my streaming keys). This happens even after reflashing the ISO.

6. If I go to ATEM Setup and change the ISO back to DHCP, it immediately reverts back to the 169.254 self-assigned address and is unreachable except through USB.

7. Looking at the ethernet port from the back, the green light on the left does light and flash when plugged into the switch, but it's a fairly regular flash and doesn't look like traffic indication. The other light does not illuminate at all.

8. I have tried multiple, known-working CAT 6 and CAT 5e cables. I have also tried connecting it directly to the main switch for the LAN, with no change in behavior.

Thanks for any info / assistance!

I am worried that Blackmagic has released another lemon.
I convinced my boss we could create a nice streaming sytem of mirrorless cameras with under $20,000, purchased all the gear, based around the ATEM Mini Pro ISO, and I can't get it to open the control software.

Blackmagic may end up costing me my job.

Good luck on yours. Mine is junk.

Thanks Guys!
