Lowest-cost Channel 15/16 talkback 'extraction' solution

PostWed Sep 16, 2020 10:41 am

Hi all,

If my initial bit of research is correct, I think the cheapest solution for grabbing the embedded talkback in channel 15/16 coming from our ATEM would be to use the 'SDI to Analogue' converter, can anyone confirm?

TIA.

This is sort of correct, the product you're needing is the Blackmagic Design Mini Converter SDI to Audio.
Common terms for what this converter does is a de-embed or de-mux.
Page 54 of the manual https://documents.blackmagicdesign.com/UserManuals/BlackmagicConvertersManual.pdf?_v=1533193940000
details using the dip-switch adjustments, in which you can set switches 5&6 to the ON position to assign SDI audio channels 13, 14, 15, and 16 to the TRS audio outputs. Blackmagic Talkback audio channels operate on channels 15+16 (LR) for the "Production" channel, and 13+14 for the "Engineering" channel. Hope this helps!

Fab, thanks for confirming - might use that device to get good 'copies' of the talkback.

'De-mux' - phwoar, I love a good technical term, thanks for reminding me of that one! :-)
