Micro Converter Grey Bar Woes

PostFri Oct 16, 2020 2:54 am

Kia ora from New Zealand,

SOMEHOW managing to have issues with seemingly the most plug and play product in the range...

Signal chain goes as follows:

-Inputs from around venue fed through SDI micro converters over RG6, cable has been tested as good.

- Inputs feed generic HDMI switcher ( I know )

Outputs from switcher into audio stripper then into micro converters that bus it around venue to various screens.

Only getting grey bars on corresponding screens... if I take SDI loop out post switcher into my tester I can only get image if I force the switcher EDID to 1080i 59.94....

Can someone tell me what the grey vertical bars mean ?

I am pretty new to the game so go easy.

Regards.

I can't offer a 'why' here.

My thinking is to replace the generic HDMI switcher with an SDI-capable ATEM model. Remove two of those conversions from the signal path.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Appreciate the response,

Yes, agreed, by far the most sensible option is to keep it SDI right the way through to the screens.

My thoughts are its potentially an HDCP thing from the switcher, my understanding though is that HDCP is only an issue on the Output side? Or is my understanding lacking / incorrect?

I do have a ATEM Mini Pro in stock..... do these accept IP control ?
