Ultra studio mini recorder not detected on M1 mac mini.

Hi
I thought this might need an update so i booted up catalina on an intel macbook pro and was able to install the v12 beta1 software. The software/firmware was updated on the recorder.
as far as I can tell the installation was flawless.
Not so on the m1 mac mini , even after lowering security to allow extensions to be installed the hardware isn't detected.
So now i have a dongle that doesn't work for resolve or fusion and a capture card which can't capture , I'm sure my hyperdeck shuttle also doesn't work, but that's mainly changing recording formats and is fine on my macbook pro.
This is getting frustrating the M1 macs are great value editing machines, if only Black magics hardware and software was working. The only thing i haven't tried yet is connecting the ultra studio mini recorder to my elgato thunderbolt 2 Dock.

Hi, I have the same problem with the Ultra Studio Mini Monitor, also with the Software Dongles for DaVinci Resolve and the Fusion Standalone software. All of this devices are listed in the System Preferences of my new MacBook Pro with the M1 chip, but the Blackmagic Software doesn't detect them. It´s really frustrating.

Just to add to the urgency of this thing: I also have this same issue. BM Mini Recorder and MacMini M1. The hardware is detected by OS X but not available in Desktop Video Setup.

you need to install the proper drivers
https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/suppor ... 969d3fcb9cbeware, you'll have to manually remove the old kext drivers which are unsupported

Hi Raphael,
Thanks for your reply. Of course, we did install these drivers (with lowering the security settings first and allowing kernel extensions to be installed). I also un- and re-installed these drivers a couple of times. No cigar.
The BM support could also not help me out. Maybe they tested it only against the Mini Recorder 3G and not the older models (since they are not supported anymore).
Do you have this setup running?
Thx

you installed the native M1 drivers ? those do not install kext and should not require lowering the security

I've also had a go at trying to install Blackmagic Desktop Video 12 Beta 1. My Ultrastudio Mini Recorder is not detected in Desktop Video Setup. I did not lower the security permissions for kernel extensions. Also tried uninstall/reinstall and no dice.

Version 12 beta 1 driver produced for macos big sur does not work on intel processor macbooks nor m1s. I tried all kinds of ways posted on the forum, no results. The technical team needs an update urgently.

Same here - UltraStudio Mini Recorder is not detected on my M1 Mac mini (installed 10 beta 1 Desktop Video drivers).
It does detect DeckLink 8K Pro through PCI TB3 box, but Resolve reports a problem on startup that the video mode can't be set and I can't use a video out from Resolve.

Same problem here. The UltraStudio recorder 3G Thunderbolt 3 is not recognized by Desktop Video Setup 12b on my MacMini M1 with Big Sur. On my (Intel) MacBook Pro 15 with Big Sur the recorder is recognized. So the problem must be in the M1 Mac.
UPDATE: after installing the newest Big Sur 11.1 on my M1 Mac Mini Blackmagics Desktop Video sees the Ultrastudio. Works in OBS and Zoom, not in Teams, Facetime and PhotoBooth.
So we have to wait for Microsofts update of Teams (universal version)

SOLUTION for Ultra studio mini recorder not detected on M1 mac mini.
I was able to get the UltraStudio Recorder 3G (Thunderbolt 3) showing up in Microsoft Teams with an Apple M1Mini.
1. Update to latest OSX Big Sur 11.1
2. Install latest Microsoft Teams 1.3.00.28778
3. Remove Teams Code Signature as instructed by Glen Aspeslagh
QUOTE
Removing Team's code signature is another way to re-enable virtual cameras. To do this:
1) Ensure that you have the latest version of Microsoft Teams, by picking Check for Update from the menu in the top right corner of the Teams window.
2) Once you've assured that you are up to date, completely quit Teams.
3) Open the Terminal app, found in Applications → Utilities.
4) Copy and paste this command into Terminal and press return:
sudo codesign --remove-signature "/Applications/Microsoft Teams.app/Contents/Frameworks/Microsoft Teams Helper (Renderer).app"
5) It will prompt for your Mac's admin password. Note that you will not see anything happens when you type it. Press return.
6) Re-open Teams.
UNQUOTE
see original Ecamm help page
https://support.ecamm.com/en/articles/4 ... ams-updateI can now use all virtual camera's, both via OBS and software like EpocCam Pro

SOLUTION #2The problem seems to be with the hardware. We bought the new BM Mini Recorder 3G. With that there is no issue. It is a more expensive solution, but it saves you from having to fiddle around with extensions and MS Teams

Same here:
MBP up to date (Intel processor)
MS Teams Up to date
Blackmagic Design Ultrastudio Monitor 3G
OBS recognizes the Thunderbolt input and shows the image.
Facetime and MS Teams do not recognize the input .
Works error free in MS Windows system with MS Teams and any other softare, so it looks a kind of driver/App/OS inconsistency.
BMD Team, please!

Throwing in my issue like everyone else.

Trying to use it as 3rd monitor in ProPresenter7.
Any fixes coming from BM soon?

Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy and see if it's simply not enabled there.
Oh wait, that's just for ATEM control software. I though the Desktop Video stuff was being held there too. Maybe it was but not now. Forget what I said, as you were.

Hello!
Is there any way to use UltraStudio Mini Recorder (with TB2 to TB3 adapter)with M1 macs? I just bought one used, because I remembered reading somewhere that it would be possible, but seems that I remembered wrong.
Is it possible to someway modify the drivers to add the kext files for UltraStudio Mini Recorder from the Intel version to the M1 version? Or why UltraStudio Mini Recorder is not supported in M1?
Best regards,
Jeremias

Hello. I have been using 2 x UltraStudioMini Recorders to capture two live video streams via hdmi into OBS a 5 year old Mac desktop. Recently I upgraded my computer to a Mac Studio with the M1 chip. Question 1 - will the Mini recorders work with the M1 chip computer. The forums indicate no. Second question - what would be the best device for me to use with the Mac Studio to capture 2 simultaneous 4k video streams

That's incorrect, the TB2 and 3 adapter is for exactly this scenario, I have one and the device is showing up. Granted, I still have the issue where Desktop Video Setup doesn't see the device, but it does show up in the system info perfectly. Unfortunately it seems Blackmagic have decided not to make their software compatible with this device - which is a shame as there is still a need for it in the market. There is no issue with connecting the device to M1 at all, it's all Blackmagics decision not to support it on M1.

Hello, same problem here. MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2021) Apple M1 Max, Thuderbold 2 to USB-C adaptor.
Device shows up in System Report, but not in "Desktop Video Setup"
I am on MacOs 12.7.6. Blackmagic_Desktop_Video_Macintosh_12.7.1 installed.
I tryed one year before and it worked.
It would be great to get an advive from Blackmagic team, if it is possible to connect this device to M1 Macs.
Perhaps we need to install an older version of Blackmagic Desktop Video ?
Btw the Apple adaptor was expensive

Thanks in advance.
