ATEM Production Studio 4K control cameras?

PostThu Jan 21, 2021 12:52 pm

Hello,

I have an ATEM Production Studio 4K mixer that is 4 years old.

I also have two blackmagic pocket 4k cameras but I don't know if I can control the cameras in any way from the camera control.

Gracias

Hello Israel. To control Pocket Cinema Camera 4K/6K with The ATEM Production Studio 4K, you will need the new Bi Directional HDMI-SDI 3G for each camera. Hook the camera to the HDMI input of the converter. Connect both SDI In and Out of the converter to the SDI In and Out of the switcher. You will need to set the ID inside each converter to represent the number of the input on the ATEM switcher. Use the Converter Setup utility connected USB to the converter to do that. Hope this helps. Stay safe.

And if I have Blackmagic production 4k and a Blackmagic cinema camera or pocket camera ? This three cameras also I could control?

The problem it is that if I must to buy four converters for 4 cameras, I am thinking in buy a Atem mini pro... this works directly with Balckmagic pocket 4k, true?

You mention "cinema camera". We have many cinema cameras so I cannot answer specifically about control. The original Cinema and Pocket Cinema cameras cannot be controlled. For the HDMI Pocket Cinema Camera 4K/6K (specific here), you need the 3G converter for each. There are two SDI outputs on the ATEM Production Studio 4K that can be used to control Cameras. The Program SDI that does not say HD-SDI, and the Aux SDI output have camera control. If you need those outputs for something else, you can use an SDI Distribution mini converter to replicate program outputs to send to each camera. The ATEM Mini is designed to control the Pocket Cinema Camera 4K/6K directly through the HDMI cable.

Thanks Gary, everything is clear to me.

I do not know what to do if I buy bi-directional converters or buy an atem mini pro directly, but something I will buy that for sure.

I understand that the Black magic production 4k is the same as the cinema camera and pocket camera version 1

A follow up to Gary's info on controlling the Pocket Cinema Cameras by ATEM Production Studio 4K units and using the Bidirectional SDI HDMI Micro converter. Is it possible to run the ATEM at 2160P30 and still use the 3G BiDirectional micro converter to control the BMPCC 4k? Or do I need to run the ATEM at the lower 1080P60.

The microconverter manual does not make it clear if the video data on the SDI matters for controlling the BM PCC 4k.

I'm sure that this is a very basic question, but I am very new to this. Audio guy play video guy.

Thanks for any insight anyone can provide.

Christopher

the Production Studio 4K doesn't have SDI program outputs for the camera sources.

Does that mean there's no way to do tally?
Nothing over HDMI??

Aux 1 carries camera control and tally on that model. The signal needs to hit a DA or router for distribution to multiple cams.

Good Luck
